Adelaide Fringe 2012 will present a significant opportunity to Australian artists by hosting 100 festival professionals through the Honey Pot program including producers and programmers from the Asia Pacific, United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates who will scour the 24-day event this summer looking for talent to take home.
“With an international reputation for breaking new talent, Adelaide Fringe has become a leading market place for innovate arts,” says director and chief executive Greg Clarke. “Our established Honey Pot program facilitates relationships between arts industry professionals and registered artists, and theresults have been exhilarating.”
With 3500 artists presenting 750+ shows during the 2011 festival, the Honey Pot participants were witness to the full splendor of Adelaide Fringe, resulting in invitations for many artists to participate infestivals world-wide, including in the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe running in Scotland this week.
The Honey Pot initiative also accommodates Australian arts industry professionals who have picked upshows for Brisbane’s Under the Radar Festival, Melbourne Cabaret Festival, Darwin Festival andothers. Adelaide Fringe associate producer Belinda Hellyer manages Honey Pot and encourages all artists to register.
“As an open-access festival anyone can participate in Adelaide Fringe 2012 and be part of Honey Pot which will put them in contact with the hosted visitors. This is a break-out career opportunity for our artists,’’ she said.
“In 2011 UK programmers from Edinburgh’s super-venue Underbelly came to Adelaide Fringe toprocure new works. As a result there are shows currently playing at the venue including The Hermitude of Angus, Ecstatic and The Lounge Room Confabulators.”
Funding to support the 2012 Honey Pot program has been raised through the Australia Korea foundation, the Australia China Council and Arts SA through their Building Pathways funding program. Services offered to visiting producers and programmers includes travel, accommodation, tickets, networking and a personalised schedule across cabaret, comedy, circus, dance, film, music, theatre, puppetry and visual arts.
