After opening its doors in 2017, Oar Lakeside has established itself as a mecca for those seeking an amazing brunch or lunch. Located right on the water in West Lakes, the incredible position teamed with its amazing menu has ensured it’s a hit with both locals and those from further afar.
The team behind Henley Beach hit 303 By The Sea created Oar Lakeside to deliver an all day brunch dining experience. After taking on the premises which previously housed the Boatshed Cafe, and overhauling the venue, Oar has taken on a life of its own. It’s basically like the big brother of 303, with the same charm and a similar offering, in a much larger space. It’s a place you’d go to for a birthday brunch, a champagne breakfast, or a day out with your friends.
The Oar Lakeside strays far away from your average cafe, with table service, a unique setting, creative dishes, local produce (except for the odd imported pickle here and there) and good quality food! AND THAT VIEW!
So guys, put your Sunday best on because not only do they serve amazing food but you can accompany your brunch with a beachside cocktail or wine (winning!).
We appreciate Oar’s dedication to their quality drinks list too. They worked with Michael from East End Cellars to pull together an amazing wine list, that is made up of mostly local SA wines. It changes regularly to keep things fresh too.
If you’re not feeling like a wine – maybe you’re a little dusty from the evening before… Oar can provide you with an organic blend of coffee with changing single origin beans for cold drip and filter coffee. Coffee aficionados will be impressed with their marco automatic filter coffee machine too, not to mention the reverse osmosis they use for the water so you’re getting better quality coffee.
Now let’s talk about the food. If you loved 303 By The Sea (or just love good food) you won’t be disappointed.
Coming into the warmer months Oar seems like the place to be, but don’t worry about the cooler months, a combustion wood fireplace is one of the original features of the building, so you can spend all summer AND winter here. A cosy brunch by the fire? Yes please.
The best thing to do is to check it out for yourself. It’s tucked away behind the boat sheds on Military Road at West Lakes – so walk around to the lake side and you’ll find it neatly positioned, waiting for you to make yourself at home.
