FIRST LOOK: New Waterfront Bar & Cafe – Oar Lakeside

The Oar Lakeside has recently launched and we’ve got your first look.

After months of anticipation the doors have finally opened at Oar Lakeside. Located right on the water in West Lakes, the incredible position teamed with its amazing menu is going to ensure it’s a hit with both locals and those from further afar.

The team behind Henley Beach hit 303 By The Sea have created Oar Lakeside to deliver an all day brunch dining experience. After taking on the premises which previously housed the Boatshed Cafe, a refreshing overhaul has been given to the venue, so that Oar can launch with a life of its own. It’s basically like the big brother of 303, with the same charm and a similar offering, in a much larger space. It’s a place you’d go to for a birthday brunch, a champagne breakfast, or a day out with your friends. It’s even kid-friendly.

In the kitchen you’ll find Trent Lynn (formerly of 2KW) and Alex (she was creating the breakfasts we loved at 303) who have taken their fine dining background and experience to create an original menu for brunch with a twist. C’mon guys, who doesn’t love all day brunch?!

The Oar Lakeside strays far away from your average cafe, with table service, a unique setting, creative dishes, local produce (except for the odd imported pickle here and there) and good quality food! AND THAT VIEW!

So guys, put your Sunday best on because not only do they serve amazing food but you can accompany your brunch with a beachside cocktail or wine (winning!). Enjoy our favourite cocktails – the Brunch Punch and Coconut Coffee Granita – while you decide between the sweet and savoury options on the menu.

The Coconut Coffee Granita & The Brunch Punch
Enjoy their freshly made juices including the raspberry rush, pine passion, carrot top and green juice – plus there’s smoothies and milkshakes on offer.

We appreciate Oar’s dedication to their quality drinks list too. They’ve been working with Michael from East End Cellars to pull together an amazing wine list, that is made up of mostly local SA wines. It will be changing regularly but at the moment it includes the likes of Bird in Hand Pinot Noir, Adelaide Hills Groom Sauv Blanc and much more.

If you’re not feeling like a wine – maybe you’re a little dusty from the evening before… Oar can provide you with an organic blend of coffee with changing single origin beans for cold drip and filter coffee. Coffee aficionados will be impressed with their marco automatic filter coffee machine too, not to mention the reverse osmosis they use for the water so you’re getting better quality coffee.

Chai lover? Alex is also making her own in-house chai. So, depending on your needs they’ve got you covered!

Now let’s talk about the food. If you loved 303 By The Sea (or just love good food) you won’t be disappointed.

Coming into the warmer months Oar seems like the place to be, but don’t worry about the cooler months, a combustion wood fireplace is one of the original features of the building, so you can spend all summer AND winter here. A cosy brunch by the fire? Yes please.

What about if you’re looking for family time? Oar Lakeside has a perfect kids section that’s home to a mini kitchen, wooden toys, butchers paper for the kids to get creative and much more. There is also a great kids menu that includes some of your little loves favourites such as avo on toast, pancakes, fruit salad, banana bread and more. So, kids or no kids, you are good to go!

If you’re just walking past and feel like grabbing a coffee, there’s also a tiny section that they’ll be selling fresh fruit and bread, speciality hot chocolate, barrel aged maple syrup and more – this place just gets better and better!

Oar also has capacity for functions holding 150 people in their main venue but they’ll soon to be able to cater to 600 (including balcony space and outside).

The best thing to do is to check it out for yourself. It’s tucked away behind the boat sheds on Military Road at West Lakes – so walk around to the lake side and you’ll find it neatly positioned, waiting for you to make yourself at home.

Oar Lakeside is located at 100 Military Road, West Lakes.
