South Australian meal business Local Kitchen Co is giving NDIS and Support at Home customers more freedom over what they eat, becoming the first ready-meal retailer in the state to let eligible customers purchase meals in-store using their package funding.
The change means registered customers can now visit Local Kitchen Co stores in Malvern, Parkside, Glenelg, Port Elliot and Modbury to browse the range and choose their own meals, rather than relying solely on online orders and home delivery.
For the past three years, customers accessing meals through Support at Home (SaH) and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) have been able to order through the business’s online delivery platform. The new in-store option opens up access to its full range of fresh and frozen meals, including gourmet salads that have been more difficult to access through delivery.
Local Kitchen Co founder and CEO Sarsha Harvey shared, “For three years, our Support at Home and NDIS customers have had to order online and wait for a delivery.
“Many of them live just down the road from one of our stores. They want to come in, have a chat with our team, see what’s fresh that day and pick something that takes their fancy. We’re so pleased we can finally offer that to them.”
Sarsha said having the freedom to choose meals in person was an important step towards greater independence for customers.
“Choice and independence are at the heart of both SaH and the NDIS. Being able to walk in and choose your own nourishing meals, including our fresh salads, is a small thing that makes a real difference to people’s day.”

Customers wanting to use their package funding in-store must first be registered with Local Kitchen Co through their Support at Home or NDIS provider.
Those who are not yet registered can contact their provider to complete an application through the Local Kitchen Co website. Once approved, customers can shop at any participating store during opening hours.
Local Kitchen Co then invoices the customer’s provider directly, with customers paying only their contribution towards the cost of ingredients in-store. The business will also continue to offer home delivery through its online platform.
The move comes as Local Kitchen Co continues to expand its South Australian footprint, having grown from a home kitchen into a food business producing meals, gourmet salads and desserts in small batches.
Harvey founded the business in 2019, before opening its first store on Duthy Street in Malvern in August 2021. Its meals are now produced at its Brooklyn Park kitchen under executive chef Jordan Theodoros, with five stores operating across Adelaide and the Fleurieu Peninsula.
A sixth location is also planned for the Adelaide Central Market in late 2026, adding to the business’s growing presence in the state’s food scene.
For eligible Support at Home and NDIS customers, the new in-store option offers another way to access convenient meals while having more say in what goes on their plate.
