South Australians are being warned about an unofficial MotoGP Adelaide website circulating online that contains incorrect information and is inviting fans to provide personal details ahead of the 2027 race.
The website presents itself as “MotoGP Grand Prix of Australia 2027” and has reportedly been shared across social media, prompting a warning from Consumer and Business Affairs Minister Michael Brown.
Among the concerns are inaccurate details about the Adelaide Street Circuit, misleading information about camping in the Adelaide Park Lands and seemingly AI-generated content about South Australia’s motor racing history.
The site describes the Adelaide circuit as 4.195km long with 17 turns, while MotoGP’s official announcement confirms the circuit will measure 4.13km and feature 15 corners.
More concerningly for fans, the unofficial website promotes itself as a seller of tickets to the Adelaide event, currently listing tickets as “coming soon”, while encouraging visitors to subscribe and hand over personal information.
Several other details have raised red flags, including the use of euros for an Australian event, bank transfers as a payment method and a contact number beginning with +420, the international calling code for the Czech Republic.
The website itself identifies its operator as Czech company TicketsGP s.r.o. and includes a disclaimer stating it is unofficial and not associated with MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports or the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme.
“It is very concerning that this page purporting to be an official MotoGP Adelaide website and containing misinformation and AI content is circulating on social media,” Minister Brown said.
“Not only does the page contain inaccurate information about camping in the Park Lands and the Adelaide circuit, it claims to be an official ticket seller and is encouraging people to sign up and provide their personal information.”
Consumer and Business Services Commissioner Brett Humphrey has also urged fans to be cautious when searching for tickets, particularly as major events can attract unofficial resellers and scam websites.
Official registrations for pre-sale access to the 2027 MotoGP Grand Prix of Australia are already open through the South Australian Motor Sport Board’s MotoGP Adelaide website, with registered fans set to be notified when tickets go on sale.
Scamwatch recommends researching an organisation before handing over money or personal information and being wary of unusual payment methods and websites impersonating established brands.
The MotoGP Grand Prix of Australia will make its Adelaide debut in November 2027 on the newly unveiled Adelaide Street Circuit.
