With school holidays beginning this weekend, there are plenty of reasons to get the kids out of the house without spending a fortune, and we’ve also got a seperate guide for that here.

Family Pop-Up at Morialta Conservation Park | September 26
The first morning of the school holidays could be spent outdoors, with Adelaide Hills Council bringing a free Family Pop-Up to Morialta Conservation Park.
The two-hour event will include Mobile Library storytime, crafts, giant games and nature-based play, while families can borrow Explorer Packs and pick up a free Nature Journal filled with activities to continue after the event.
There will also be a dedicated chill-out zone, so families can move through the morning at their own pace before exploring more of the park.

The Amazing Magic Mike’s Disco Party | September 26
Kids can dance their way into the school holidays when The Amazing Magic Mike takes over Aldinga Library on Saturday morning.
Designed for children aged five to 12, the free Disco Party Extravaganza promises plenty of music, dancing and high-energy fun as the library launches its school holiday program.
Parents and caregivers need to remain in the library during the event, and a ticket is required for each participating child.

Little Lenses, Big Discoveries | September 26
Kids can become nature photographers for the day at Whitmore Square / Iparrityi as part of a free Nature Festival experience created especially for families.
Families will collect a discovery map pointing them towards nature around Adelaide’s south-west corner, alongside hands-on activities designed to encourage children to slow down and explore their surroundings.
Up to 25 cameras will be available for children to share, with photographs captured on the day later forming part of an exhibition at Minor Works Community Centre. Families are also encouraged to pack a picnic and enjoy the square.

Free school holiday fun at the Australian Space Discovery Centre | September 26–27
Budding astronauts have several free reasons to head to Lot Fourteen this weekend as the Australian Space Discovery Centre launches its school holiday program.
On Saturday, families can drop in between 1pm and 4pm to meet the centre’s SketchBots and have a portrait drawn by a robot. Then on Sunday, children aged three to eight can join Operation Storytime, combining a space-themed book with an activity and time to explore the gallery.
Older kids can tackle a Space Mission later on Sunday, searching for clues around the gallery and completing challenges connected to the centre’s exhibits. General admission is free, with the centre open from 10am to 5pm throughout the school holidays.

Dogs Day Out | September 27
Kids don’t have to leave their four-legged family members at home this Sunday, with Dogs Day Out returning to Mawson Lakes.
The free community event will fill Mobara Park and the Denison Centre with more than 100 stalls and food trucks, alongside dog competitions, displays, giveaways and vet checks.
Friendly dogs are welcome but need to remain on a leash, making this one particularly good for families whose weekend outings usually need to include the dog.

Growing For Gold | from September 27
Growing for Gold is giving Adelaide kids the chance to try their hand at a huge range of sports these spring holidays, with free come-and-try sessions for children aged 4 to 16 across sporting clubs in Adelaide’s north.
Running from September 26th to October 11th, the program covers everything from cricket and athletics to basketball, taekwondo and boxing, with no experience needed. Participants will also receive a certificate, while those who join a participating club can receive a voucher towards sporting gear, shoes or equipment.
