Graduates Unveil Graphic Design Exhibition in Two Words

TAFE SA’s next wave of third year graphic design graduates will be showcasing their creative talents to family, friends, industry and the public in a collaborative graduate exhibition, Two Words, next month.

Fourteen Advanced Diploma of Advertising and Graphic Design graduating students from O’Halloran Hill Campus will share their creative works in this visual experience that will highlight the conceptual thinking, problem solving and practical application students’ have undertaken to fill the gallery space.

Graduating student, and Two Words Exhibition Coordinator, Ellen Beames explains students have used channels such as social media to cultivate an air of mystery around the exhibition, with all to be revealed on the opening night where design themes will be seen in context.

Ms Beames believes TAFE SA’s Graphic Design Program produces industry ready graduates with creative and intellectual capabilities. “There is an equal amount of focus on learning the practical skills of the industry as well as the conceptual side of design, and that balance really prepares students for working in industry.” said Ms Beames.

With facilities to fit, Ms Beames said; “Third year has definitely been the highlight of the course, with each of us having our own iMac and a collective [third year] studio space, creating a great work environment where we constantly bounce ideas off each other in quite a similar setup to a real design studio.”

Two Words opening night will also mark the launch of a limited edition Two Words magazine crafted by graduating students and led by fellow graduating student and Magazine Editor Jordan Graetz. The publication will give insights into the Two Words collective and the local design scene with feature articles and interviews from some of Adelaide’s finest including Lyndon Whaite, Parallax, Voice, Mash, Rodeo, Robin Eley, Soup Creative, Harlee Design and Dan Withey.

Two Words will provide audiences with insights into the process that turns concepts into functional branding, packaging and typography, and explores the many facets of students’ work from corporate design, to illustration and street art – to name a few.

TAFE SA Graphic Design Lecturer Geert van Keulen praises the talent, dedication and drive of students to become successful designers. “Late last year students already expressed how much this final year mattered for them and started planning the year before it had even started. The concept of Two Words is a true measure of their talent and personalities. I am certain that they will find good employment in the design industry.” said Mr van Keulen. Two Words graphic design graduate exhibition will be held at the Light Square Gallery (39 Light Square, Adelaide), with opening night 6 December, 6.30pm ‐ 9.00pm, and continuing 7 and 8 December, 9am – 5pm.
