A quirky McLaren Vale cellar door is celebrating the arrival of spring with an afternoon of new-release wines, flowers, grazing, and antique treasures overlooking the coast.
Berg Herring Wines is hosting its Spring Release Garden Party at its Sellicks Beach cellar door on Saturday, October 10th, inviting wine lovers to spend the afternoon in the garden while getting an early taste of four new wines.
The boutique winery is known for its small-batch, minimal-intervention wines and its cellar door, housed inside a converted 1862 heritage sandstone chapel.
For the spring party, guests will get exclusive pre-release access to four new 2026 McLaren Vale wines, including a Sparkling Pecorino, a Grenache Gris, a Rosé and a Dragon Mama Light Red.
Each $89 ticket includes four half-glass pours, one of each new wine, plus a Picky Bits grazing box and everything you need to create a spring flower posie. Guests can choose their own blooms before taking their arrangement home in a one-of-a-kind thrifted or antique bud vase.
In true Berg Herring fashion, the winery has been scouring antique shops and thrift stores to put together a collection of vases for the event. So yes, you can spend your Saturday afternoon drinking wine, arranging flowers and hunting for a tiny antique treasure to take home. There are also two bottles of your choice from the four spring releases included in the ticket price.
The official garden party activities will run from 11am to 1pm, but guests don’t have to pack up once the flower arranging is finished. The cellar door will remain open until 6pm, with visitors welcome to settle in for the rest of the afternoon and enjoy the sea views with another glass of wine.
Berg Herring was founded by Chloe Fitzgerald and Sam Dunlevy, with Dunlevy looking after the winemaking, and the cellar door has built a reputation for its alternative varieties and minimal-intervention approach.
The winery focuses on emerging Mediterranean varieties suited to South Australia’s warmer climate, making the spring release a chance to try a few wines beyond the usual McLaren Vale suspects. The Sellicks Beach setting also makes the event feel more like a long lunch or garden escape than a traditional cellar door tasting, with the winery sitting between the historic Victory Hotel and the coast.
Tickets to the Spring Release Garden Party are $89 per person, with the winery valuing the inclusions at up to $135. The event is strictly 18+, with tickets limited and advance bookings required.
So if your ideal spring afternoon involves a glass of something cold, a box of grazing treats, flowers on the table and an antique vase you absolutely didn’t need but couldn’t leave behind, this one might be worth the drive south.
