Adelaide is preparing for three weeks of Italian food, music and festivities this November, as the Adelaide Italian Festival celebrates 50 years since its beginnings with an expanded program of events across South Australia.
Running from 1 to 22 November 2026, the festival will bring Italian culture into restaurants, community clubs, markets and public spaces, with everything from long lunches and pasta-making workshops to live music, cultural celebrations and a free 12-hour East End party.
This year’s anniversary carries particular significance for Adelaide’s Italian community.
The festival traces its roots to 1976, when Italian migrant families came together for a public celebration in Rundle Mall. Over the following decades, the event evolved into the Carnevale, before being relaunched as the Adelaide Italian Festival.
Now, half a century after those early celebrations, the festival is extending its previous 10-day format into three weeks, bringing together established community traditions and contemporary Italian experiences.

One of the biggest highlights will be the free Adelaide Italian Festival in the East End on Saturday 14 November, running from 11am to 11pm.
The precinct will take on the atmosphere of an Italian piazza, with pop-up food vendors, local restaurants, live entertainment and family-friendly activities throughout the day. Visitors can wander between participating venues, settle in for lunch or stay into the evening as the celebrations continue.
The program officially begins on Sunday 1 November with La Grande Gita, a cycling event through McLaren Vale. Starting and finishing at Serafino Wines, the experience offers several routes, ranging from relaxed family rides to a challenging 80km gravel course, followed by Italian food, music and celebrations.
On Sunday 8 November, the Fogolar Furlan Club in Felixstow will host another free community favourite, La Sagra. Visitors can explore Italian food stalls, enjoy live music and cultural displays, and browse Nonna’s Flea Market, which returns as part of the festivities.
Throughout November, the festival will also offer cooking experiences, special restaurant events, art workshops, opera and community activities. Among the highlights are a Pizza Discoteca evening at Eccomi in Norwood, Italian Storytime at Burnside Library and a three-day Piazza Party at Patritti in Dover Gardens.
Adelaide Italian Festival Chair Dr Phillip Donato OAM said the 2026 program brings together established favourites and new experiences.
“The Adelaide Italian Festival continues to evolve each year and this year’s line-up really does encapsulate the true Italian way of life,” he said.
The celebrations will finish on Sunday 22 November with La Tavolata, an Italian long lunch transforming Vardon Lane into an outdoor dining space, presented by Enoteca Lounge & Cucina and Mother Vine.
With free community celebrations alongside ticketed experiences, the festival offers plenty of opportunities for South Australians to experience Italian culture, whether they have a family connection to Italy or simply enjoy its food, music and traditions.
