Newly opened Adelaide restaurant sees bookings soar after receiving MICHELIN honour

Just six months after opening, Pantry on Prospect has recorded a major increase in reservations following its inclusion in Australia’s inaugural MICHELIN Guide, with other South Australian restaurants reporting a similar boost.

The arrival of the MICHELIN Guide in South Australia is already having a significant impact on the local hospitality industry, with several recognised restaurants reporting a surge in bookings just days after the inaugural awards ceremony.

Among the biggest beneficiaries is Pantry on Prospect, which has experienced a booking increase of more than 50 per cent after receiving a Bib Gourmand distinction, recognising restaurants that deliver high-quality food at approachable prices.

The 70-seat neighbourhood restaurant, affectionately known as POP, opened in April 2026 at 71 Prospect Road, making its international recognition particularly significant just six months into operation.

Founded by Callum Hann and Themis Chryssidis, the restaurant celebrates South Australian produce, with a menu centred around locally sourced ingredients and a wine list showcasing the state’s producers.

Since the MICHELIN Guide announcement on Wednesday, 14 October, the restaurant has received well over 100 new reservations, with diners booking tables for both the coming days and months ahead.

“We’ve seen a genuine lift in bookings, with well over 100 reservations made in just a few days,” Managing Director Themis Chryssidis said.

“Guests are booking for tonight and for months ahead, which shows the power of Michelin. We haven’t changed a thing, and we won’t. We’ll keep doing what we do and keep shining a bright light on SA.”

Pantry on Prospect was one of 16 restaurants across South Australia awarded a Bib Gourmand in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide South Australia 2027.

The distinction recognises restaurants offering quality cooking at approachable prices, highlighting venues where diners can enjoy memorable food without the price tag traditionally associated with fine dining.

The awards are also generating interest elsewhere in Adelaide, with Africola on East Terrace reporting a significant increase in reservations.

Led by chef patron Duncan Welgemoed, the restaurant is known for its bold South African-inspired cuisine and was also among the state’s 16 Bib Gourmand recipients.

“We’ve had a real upsurge in bookings since the announcement, and a huge uptake in long-lead reservations, with people planning their visit well in advance,” Duncan said.

Nearby Golden Boy on North Terrace also received a Bib Gourmand, placing two recognised restaurants within a short distance of one another in Adelaide’s East End.

The recognition extends beyond the city, with four Bib Gourmand restaurants located in regional South Australia.

Among them is The Salopian Inn in McLaren Vale, where co-owner and chef Karena Armstrong has built a menu around seasonal ingredients, the restaurant’s kitchen garden and local producers.

Karena believes the MICHELIN Guide could provide important opportunities for regional hospitality businesses and the communities that support them.

The positive response has not been limited to restaurants receiving a Bib Gourmand or MICHELIN Star.

Two MICHELIN Selected venues, Tarantino’s in Adelaide’s East End and Anchovy Bandit on Prospect Road, have also reported booking increases of more than 30 per cent in the days following the announcement.

Tarantino’s, which opened in mid-2025 on Vardon Avenue, draws inspiration from New York’s Italian dining scene, with an open kitchen, wood-fired oven and a menu overseen by Executive Chef Shane Wilson.

Across South Australia, 77 restaurants were recognised in the inaugural guide, including 11 MICHELIN-starred restaurants, 16 Bib Gourmand recipients and 50 MICHELIN Selected venues.

The early booking figures suggest the recognition is already encouraging diners to explore the state’s hospitality scene, bringing new attention to both established favourites and relatively new neighbourhood restaurants.
