Adelaide is heading into a cool and mostly settled stretch of weather, with only the occasional light shower at first before a noticeably wetter change builds in by the middle of next week.
For Friday, the city can expect a partly cloudy day with a medium chance of light showers, easing in the afternoon. Temperatures are staying on the cool side, with Adelaide reaching just 17 degrees and suburbs including Elizabeth, Glenelg, Mount Barker and Noarlunga all forecast to top out around 16 degrees. Light winds will keep things fairly calm, and conditions on local waters are also quiet, with seas below half a metre and only a 50 per cent chance of showers this morning.
That generally settled pattern continues through the weekend. Saturday is shaping up as another partly cloudy day, with the slight chance of a shower during the late morning or afternoon and some morning fog possible around the hills. The city is again forecast to reach 17 degrees after a low of 9. Sunday looks even quieter, with partly cloudy skies, light winds and only a very slim chance of rain. Adelaide’s minimum will dip to 8 degrees before another top of 17.
The start of next week brings a modest warm-up. Monday will stay partly cloudy, with a slight chance of a shower later in the day and into the evening. Easterly winds are expected to turn northeasterly, helping lift the temperature to a milder 20 degrees after a chilly start of 8. By Tuesday, that cloud cover begins to thicken and showers become more likely, especially later in the day. Adelaide is forecast to reach 19 degrees with a high chance of showers and possible rainfall of up to 5mm.
Wednesday follows a similar pattern, with showers increasing later in the day as northeasterly winds turn northerly through the morning. Conditions remain cool, with a minimum of 11 and a maximum of 19 degrees. Thursday is currently shaping up as the wettest day of the seven-day outlook, with cloudy skies, a very high chance of showers and possible rainfall between 1 and 15mm. The temperature is expected to reach 18 degrees.
Across South Australia, the broader picture is also fairly subdued to start with, thanks to a high pressure system sitting over the state and only slowly drifting southeast. That means cool days, areas of morning fog and some patchy frost across inland districts, especially through the agricultural areas and south of the pastoral districts. Light showers are expected at times over the southern agricultural area, particularly along windward coasts and ranges, while the far northwest may see showers and possible thunderstorms into Friday and Saturday.
By Sunday and Monday, attention shifts to the north and northeast of the state as a trough pushes in from Queensland. That’s expected to bring more widespread shower activity through the North East Pastoral and Flinders districts, with rain at times in the northeast and the potential for stronger falls in the north. Rainfall totals across much of the state are expected to stay light, but parts of the Pastoral and Flinders districts could see between 5 and 15mm, with isolated falls of 15 to 30mm possible about the north. Temperatures will remain below average through much of the state for several days before trending warmer across agricultural areas by Monday.
