Adelaide is heading into a wet and windy end to the week, with showers, possible thunderstorms and a noticeable blast of cooler air set to roll through before calmer spring conditions return across the city next week.
Friday starts the seven-day stretch on an unsettled note for Adelaide, with partly cloudy skies giving way to widespread showers from late morning and a chance of thunderstorms through the late morning and afternoon. Temperatures are expected to reach 21 degrees in the city, with northern and coastal suburbs sitting around 20 degrees and Mount Barker a touch cooler at 19 degrees. Northerly winds will pick up and swing more northwesterly into the evening, setting the scene for a more blustery change overnight.
Saturday looks like the roughest day of the week for Adelaide residents, with a very high chance of showers, strong northwesterly winds and a cooler top of just 17 degrees. Conditions are expected to turn west to southwesterly during the day, bringing that classic sharp, fresh change that tends to sweep straight through the suburbs and along the coast. It will be a day for umbrellas, jackets and keeping an eye on local conditions if you’re heading out, particularly around exposed coastal areas.
By Sunday, the worst of the wet weather should ease, although the city will stay cloudy with just a slight chance of a passing shower. Adelaide’s top will remain cool at 17 degrees after an overnight low of 9, but winds are expected to ease during the morning, which should make things feel far more manageable than Saturday.
The new week then settles into a quieter pattern. Monday brings partly cloudy skies, a slight chance of a shower and the possibility of morning fog around the hills, with a top of 19 degrees. Tuesday remains partly cloudy, with another chance of morning fog and a cooler start before reaching 18 degrees. By Wednesday, Adelaide holds onto the partly cloudy conditions, with southeasterly winds and a top of 19. Thursday is shaping up as the pick of the week, with sunshine returning and temperatures lifting to 21 degrees under easterly winds.
Across regional South Australia, the next few days will bring a much broader sweep of changing conditions. Showers in the west on Friday are expected to extend through the Agricultural Areas and into the south of the pastoral districts, while thunderstorms may move from western parts into the Eyre and Yorke Peninsulas and later east of the ranges. Saturday brings another active day, especially in the state’s south and southeast.
Showers are expected across the Southern Agricultural Area before gradually clearing, while thunderstorms are possible in the South East districts and may turn severe in the Lower South East, with the risk of damaging wind gusts. Conditions settle somewhat on Sunday and Monday, though the far west may see showers and possible thunderstorms build again later Sunday and continue into Monday. Rainfall totals through to the end of Monday are expected to be higher in the far west, Agricultural Areas, Mount Lofty Ranges and Lower South East, where local heavier falls are possible. Coastal waters will also be lively, with strong to gale-force marine winds affecting several SA coastal areas through Friday and Saturday.
Happy Friday!
