Adelaide weather forecast for Monday October 5th and the days ahead

Happy Monday! Here’s the weather for October 5th and a look at what’s to come this week.

Adelaide is in for a fairly changeable week, starting cool and settled before a late-week burst of showers and possible thunderstorms shakes things up ahead of the weekend.

For today, conditions across Adelaide are looking calm and fairly comfortable, with cloud clearing through the day and a top of 20 degrees expected in the city. Light winds will shift westerly in the early afternoon before easing again later in the day, making for a cool spring Monday. Tuesday keeps temperatures at 20 degrees, but the city is likely to see a shower or two, most likely in the morning into the early afternoon, before conditions begin to clear as winds swing from west to northwesterly around to the south and southeast.

By Wednesday, Adelaide moves back into a brighter pattern, with sunshine returning and a crisp start of 9 degrees before a top of 23 degrees. That warming trend continues on Thursday, which is shaping up as the pick of the working week with sunny skies and a much milder 28 degrees. Northeasterly winds will help lift temperatures, giving Adelaide a more classic spring feel after the cooler start to the week.

The weather then takes a distinct turn on Friday as cloud builds and showers become very likely across the city. There is also the chance of a thunderstorm later in the day, with rainfall totals of 3 to 15 mm possible and a top of 25 degrees. It looks like the most unsettled day of the seven-day stretch, so it may be one to keep an eye on if you have evening plans or travel arranged.

That wetter change lingers into Saturday, with cloudy skies and a high chance of showers continuing. Temperatures will drop sharply, with Adelaide only expected to reach 18 degrees after a minimum of 12 degrees, while westerly winds turn south to southwesterly later in the day. By Sunday, things begin to ease again, with partly cloudy skies and just a slight chance of a passing shower. The city is forecast to reach 20 degrees, rounding out a week that swings from cool to warm and back again in true October fashion.

Across regional South Australia, the early part of the week stays mostly dry under the influence of a ridge, although there is a slight chance of an isolated shower over the far north today and possible morning fog in the far west. On Tuesday, showers are expected about the southern agricultural area before clearing during the day, while the north remains dry. Temperatures are generally tracking below average through the first half of the week, especially in eastern districts.

Wednesday brings dry conditions across the state, with below average maximums in the east and warmer weather building in the west. By Thursday, attention turns to western South Australia, where showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during the day as the next front approaches. Elsewhere, conditions should remain dry.

Rainfall totals through to the end of Thursday are forecast to stay light across the far northeast and agricultural areas, with slightly higher totals in the Mount Lofty Ranges and the North West Pastoral district. For coastal communities and boaters around Adelaide metropolitan waters, seas remain relatively slight through midweek, though winds will freshen on Tuesday, especially north of Grange later in the day.

Happy Monday!
