Adelaide weather forecast for Tuesday September 8th and the days ahead

Happy Tuesday! Here’s the weather for September 8th and a look at what’s to come this week.

Adelaide is heading into a cool but mostly settled stretch of weather this week, with cloudy skies today giving way to sunnier conditions before shower chances return by Sunday and Monday. For most of the week, the city looks dry and calm, with daytime temperatures gradually lifting from a chilly 16 degrees to 18 degrees midweek to the low 20s by the weekend.

Today in Adelaide, skies will become cloudy as light winds turn south to southwesterly late in the afternoon. The city is only expected to reach 18 degrees, with little chance of rain. Around the suburbs, temperatures will stay similarly cool, with Glenelg reaching 16 degrees, Noarlunga 17 degrees, and Elizabeth and Mount Barker both topping out at 18 degrees. Wednesday stays on the cool side, with a low of 9 degrees and a maximum of 16 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Southerly winds will strengthen early before tending southeasterly, which will keep that crisp feel in the air.

By Thursday, Adelaide will shake off the cloud and move into a run of brighter spring weather. A sunny day and a top of 19 degrees are on the cards, with southeasterly winds easing as the day goes on. Friday then continues the improving trend, with another sunny day forecast and temperatures nudging up to 21 degrees. Light winds will turn north to northeasterly during the morning before easing later in the day.

The weekend looks especially pleasant for anyone planning a market visit, long lunch, or time outdoors. Saturday is forecast to be partly cloudy with a mild 23-degree top and light northeasterly winds. Sunday should stay relatively mild as well, reaching 23 degrees, though there is a medium chance of showers developing later in the day. By Monday, that unsettled edge becomes a little more noticeable, with a shower or two possible and a top of 22 degrees as winds shift from northwest to southwesterly through the day.

For Adelaide waters, marine conditions remain fairly manageable through the next few days, though it may get choppier at times. Today starts with variable winds below 10 knots before southerlies build to 10 to 15 knots later on. Wednesday brings stronger southerly to southeasterly winds, with seas around 1 metre, before conditions ease again on Thursday and Friday with lower seas and sunny weather.

Across South Australia, the broader picture is cooler than average for much of the state through to Thursday, thanks to a high pressure system to the southwest extending a ridge across the south. That means dry conditions for large parts of SA, but the west and far northwest remain the main exceptions. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue in western districts today, with the risk of severe thunderstorms in the far northwest and the potential for heavy falls near the WA border. Through to Friday, rainfall totals are expected to stay under 2 mm across much of the state, but areas west of about Ceduna could see 5 to 15 mm, with local heavier falls of 20 to 50 mm possible near the western border with thunderstorms.

Regional communities in the southeast and Flinders can also expect some cold starts, with patchy morning frost possible on Thursday, while fog is possible about the Eastern Eyre Peninsula and on and east of the Mount Lofty Ranges today, and again about and east of the ranges on Friday morning. By Friday, temperatures are expected to recover closer to average, and even rise above average in parts of the Southern Agricultural Area.

Happy Tuesday!
