Adelaide has been chosen to host the Down Under debut of Oz Comic-Con (http://www.ozcomiccon.com) in 2012.

In the spirit of Comic-Con events throughout the world, globally recognised as entertainment industry powerhouses, Oz Comic-Con will be a pop culture expo like no other. Adelaide fans will be the first to experience the event in Australia, before it moves to Melbourne in June 2012, expanding further into Australia throughout 2013 and 2014.

Over two days, Oz Comic-Con Adelaide will feature international and local film and TV stars such as; Disney Legend Bill Farmer (the voice of Goofy and Pluto, among others), Jewel Staite (Firefly, Serenity, Stargate Atlantis), cult-movie icons Sean Patrick Flaneryand Norman Reedus (The Boondocks Saints), Teryl Rothery (Stargate SG1) as well as Aussie's Gigi Edgley (Farscape, Rescue: Special Ops) and Nicola Scott (Teen Titans, Birds of Prey, JSA, Secret Six). Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Stewart McKenny (Super Friends, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures),Corin Nemic (Stargate SG-1) and Matt Doran (The Matrix) will also attend the weekend's festivities, with many more guests to be announced shortly.

In an Australian first, aspiring SA comic creators will be able to submit their work for professional review, with Scott Allie (Dark Horse Comics, Senior Managing Editor) in attendance at Oz Comic-Con Melbourne and scouting for new talent. There will also be comic book and anime artists, gaming demonstrations and cosplay competitions (a unique type of performance art in which participants don costumes to reflect cultural ideas and concepts, often from Japanese popular fiction).
“Oz Comic-Con will be more than just a gathering place for South Australian fans of the various arms of pop culture,” said Ms Carissa Avenhouse, of Oz Comic-Con organisers DCA Enterprises. “It will celebrate and educate – it will be the place for fans to share their love of pop culture, get up close and personal with celebrities, enter contests with fantastic prizes, or learn how to break into the industry.”
