COMING SOON: Cottage-core cellar door receives new look ahead of Spring

From the makers of Tscharke Wines comes its newest incarnation, The Protagonist.

The Seppeltsfield streets are abuzz with rumours of a new cellar door. We’re here to tell you that there is some truth to the rumours.

From the makers of Tscharke Wines comes its newest incarnation, The Protagonist.

Tscharke Wines has been a staple of the Barossa for years, so when they decided to close the cellar door at the end of last year most were shocked. But the closure was intended to serve as the first chapter in The Protagonist’s story.

Evolving beyond the traditional cellar door concept, The Protagonist will be a showcase venue for Tscharke wines, a beautiful location to enjoy Tscharke wines by the glass or the bottle.

Mark Smith, Venue Manager for The Protagonist

“The heart of Tscharke is to constantly strive to evolve everything as well as constantly seeking to refine every aspect of the business,” Brand Manager Jess Greatwich said.

With the renovations starting 18 months ago, the cellar door has had the time to perfect and share perspectives on how they would like to usher in the next 10 years.

“We’ve just been building and focusing on our vineyard and winemaking. We’ve rebuilt the space entirely and it’s now so sexy, luxe and lush and very different from the older cottage-core aesthetic. From the textures on the wall to the glasses that the wines are served in, we’ve completely considered what would be the best way to showcase Tscharke Wines.

“We’ve custom-built accents with bespoke furniture that fit the aesthetic of the building. Each wine even has its own glass,” Jess said.

The venue will provide different pockets that each have its own thematic style.

“There will be different sections of the venue. We have a downstairs bar with granite detailing, clusters of cafe-style tables, and an upstairs mezzanine with velvet leather cigar chairs, and plush carpeting.

“We have something that I call ‘The Jungle Room’ which will serve as a VIP private room that’s wallpapered from top to bottom of a green jungle landscape that has dark gold luminescent rust-coloured seating along with eye-catching chandeliers overhead,” Jess continues.

The Tscharke team didn’t want to just refurbish the cellar door, they wanted to introduce an entirely different level of excellence and refinement to the brand.

The new name is purposeful in meaning with The Protagonist proving that not only is the cellar door the main character but those who visit the winery feel as though they too are the main character of their own narrative.

The messaging encompasses the feeling that Tscharke Wines wants to provide patrons, new and returning.

We are all the archetypes of the protagonist in our own respective stories, and Tscharke Wines tends to agree.

Although The Protagonist is set to open in September, Tscharke Wines will be hosting a Romance with Grenache tasting on September 3-4. For more details click here.

The Protagonist is set to have a Spring opening, so keep an eye out on Facebook for more updates as they come in.
