FIRST LOOK: New Port Adelaide restaurant Burgerchino serves up actual 1.7kg burger!

A new smoked meat, eats and burger joint called Burgerchino has opened in the heart of Port Adelaide.

As soon as you hop onto Burgerchino’s Instagram page, your mouth will be salivating. You can almost taste the food through each post which features delicious smoked meats and eats, burgers, tacos and cocktails.

Nestled in Port Adelaide, the newly opened shop is owned and operated by Michael Baldacchino, who has a passion for smoked low and slow BBQ and all things food.

Michael’s owned his own catering business and worked within the industry for several years, but has decided to expand his repertoire and open a shop for more people to come and enjoy his quality recipes.

“Cooking and smoking foods was something that started out as a hobby, but opening my own shop was always the end goal. Now, with the support of my wife, we’ve done it,” owner Michael Baldacchino says.

They’ve created a family-friendly environment and taken the idea of a stereotypical burger shop and turned it on its head. Instead of a grungy fast-food take-out environment, Michael has created a dine-in space with neon signs and palm tree wallpaper.

“it’s just a really cool shop that’s very inviting and perfect for fun times and great conversations,” Michael says.

“It’s also in the heart of Port Adelaide which is an up and coming cool area. I can definitely see it being the next big thing in the next couple of years.”

Michael has combined all his favourite foods into the one restaurant, taking his love of smoking food, matching it with his love of burgers which was made permanent after his stint working as a Manager at Munchies, and also tacos – which everyone loves.

“I’ve combined it all together and it’s become a great menu,” Michael says.

From beef, chicken and vegan burgers, to fried chicken, to delights from the smoker including tacos, there’s a menu item for everyone.

“My favourite is the burger challenge which is one burger that’s probably the size of seven. It weighs 1.7kg and is 30cm wide,” Michael says.

“But our most popular burger is the Beef Bounce which is made to taste like it’s from the smoker with a specific rub on the patties and smoked mayo.”

“We even get the smoker out on a Sunday and serve food from there,” Michael says.

While take-away is certainly available, this shop is a place you’ll want to dine-in to have a great feed, a chat and a delicious cocktail or beer.
