The Torrens Arms Hotel in Kingswood has been a cornerstone of the community since 1857, but this year, it’s stepped confidently into a new era. The beloved “TA” has completed a stunning renovation, giving the venue a lighter, brighter look while keeping the familiar warmth that locals love.
Hotel Manager Jake says the project wasn’t about changing who they are, but refreshing what people already adore.
“It’s not a complete gut job,” he explains.
“We haven’t changed the bones of the building at all, just the skin really, and that matches on the inside pretty well. The décor has been upgraded with lighter tones and European styling. It feels fresh and open now.”

New furniture, softer lighting and natural textures have transformed the feel of the pub.
“It was all quite dark before, with lots of greys and golds,” Jake says.
“Now it’s bright, with light greens and blues. We’ve gone from hard stools to raised upholstered chairs and new restaurant seating that’s much more comfortable. People really notice the difference.”
The TA Bar has also had a major facelift.
“It was very sports bar before,” Jake laughs.
“Lots of chrome and glass fittings. We’ve replaced all that with timber joinery and under-bench fridges instead of uprights, which makes it feel much more open and inviting.”

That flow now leads straight to an expanded courtyard that’s set to be the star of summer.
“We’ve added about 30 per cent more space out there,” Jake says.
“There are new booths, a large deck under umbrellas, and a fireplace that’s been perfect for the cooler nights. And we’ve also put in a new bar so we can service the courtyard properly.”
Live acoustic music will feature every Friday night and Sunday afternoon, with the team hoping to build on the TA’s reputation for relaxed weekends in the sun.
“It’s all about giving people a reason to stay a little longer,” Jake smiles.
With the kitchen back in full swing, the menu has been refreshed too.
“We’ve added share options for the courtyard and some really popular new sandos. We’ve got a TA cheesesteak that’s flying out the door,” he says.
“The restaurant still has all the classics, but with a few premium dishes like lamb shoulder and barramundi.”

Even families are getting more reasons to visit, thanks to the nearby cinema.
“We do a $12 movie ticket if you buy a main meal, and the voucher lasts for three years,” Jake says.
“We’ve also got a buy one, get one free drink offer if you bring your movie ticket stub after the film, which is perfect for date nights.”
Each week, the TA keeps things lively with pub classics and crowd-pleasers, from Monday night fish and chips for $17 to Thursday’s $20 rump steak special. Sundays are all about Sparkling Sundays, where guests can share a charcuterie board and two glasses of sparkling for $50 while enjoying live local music in the courtyard.
And yes, the TA is open for Christmas Day.
“We’re doing a three-course set menu for $155 per adult, including a three-hour drinks package,” Jake says.
“It’s great value, and it means families can relax instead of cooking.”
From its fresh new fit-out to the sound of live music drifting through the courtyard, the Torrens Arms Hotel has found the perfect balance between old soul and new style.
