South Australian police officers could receive four consecutive annual pay rises under a new agreement reached in principle between the State Government and the Police Association of South Australia.
The proposed enterprise bargaining agreement would deliver 4 per cent general increases each year from 2027 through to 2030, which the government describes as a total 16 per cent pay increase over four years. The deal is not yet final, with Police Association members expected to vote on the offer in the coming weeks.
The Police Association has agreed in principle to the offer and will advocate for members to vote in favour of it.
Under the proposed schedule, the first 4 per cent increase would apply from the first full pay period on or after January 1st, 2027, followed by further 4 per cent increases in January 2028, January 2029 and January 2030.
The wider proposal also includes changes to allowances and working conditions. Reporting on the agreement indicates it includes additional provisions for experienced frontline officers, regional incentives and changes to overtime and specialist allowances.
Police Association of South Australia represents more than 4,600 sworn SAPOL members across ranks.
Treasurer and Minister for Public Sector Tom Koutsantonis said, “This is a fantastic outcome for South Australia’s hard-working and dedicated police, and I would like to thank Wade Burns and PASA for their constructive engagement as we worked through the Enterprise Bargaining process.
“The Malinauskas Government has made record investments in police numbers and resources, with more than 800 police officers sworn in since 2023.”
Police Minister Michael Brown said, “South Australia’s police officers deserve to feel valued, respected and supported, and this agreement delivers that.
“With a 16% wage increase over four years, this is a significant outcome for our hard-working police and recognises the vital role they play in keeping South Australians safe.”
The agreement follows previous measures aimed at police recruitment and retention. The 2026–27 State Budget says more than 800 officers have been sworn in since 2023 and states South Australia has reached its full complement of police officers.
The current registered agreement remains the South Australia Police Enterprise Agreement 2021, along with subsequent variations, while the new proposal goes through the approval process.
