Penneshaw Pub to host Kangaroo Island’s “biggest party of the year”, The Penny Palooza

The Penny Palooza promises a night of local wine, local produce and entertainment on Kangaroo Island.

Taking over the iconic Penneshaw Pub during the June long weekend, The Penny Palooza promises a night of local wine, local produce and entertainment. 

As part of the Gutsy Kangaroo Island event, this integral part of the weekend takes place as the dusk hits the west side of the island on Sunday June 11th.  

Showcasing the rich and diverse produce that comes from across the island, The Penny Palooza and Gutsy Kangaroo Island events pay tribute to the resilience of both the produce and people of Kangaroo Island.  

In Australia, it is often that the heart of any small town can be found in the local pub. This is the certainly the case the Penneshaw pub. The water-front venue is picturesque at twilight, providing a decadent backdrop to what is promised to be a “very extravagant party”.  

On arrival, guests will be treated a gin-tasting experience, provided by Kangaroo Island Spirits. Their one-a-kind botanicals the ideal way to warm-up on a Winter night. 

“Kangaroo Island Spirits have been working hard to create us a winter inspired warm toffee apple cocktail that guests can enjoy on the evening,” Renee Daniell from The Penneshaw Hotel explains. 

After the gin has been tasted, wine provided by Stoke Wines is next on the menu. Served on the side of a live oyster shucking experience from American River Oyster Farm, there is no fresher way to enjoy this local delicacy. 

Throughout the rest of the event, a range of local produce will be on offer. Slow charcoaled rotisserie meats play a featured role of the offerings and if that is not to your taste, don’t worry vegetarians- The Penny Palooza promises that all dietary requirements being met. 

Along with the dietary requirements, the under 18’s will also be looked after. With a special ticket on offer, they will be able to partake in all the food and entertainment festivities with unlimited soft drinks available all night.  

“There will be live music performed by local artist, Bob Hawkins band, as well as some extravagant roving entertainment,” Daniell says, “which we are keeping a secret so it’s a special surprise for guests on arrival.” 

The festivities extend to the following morning, with a recovery session that is truly for the bold.

Recovery starts with a cold-water swim in Penneshaw beach led by KI local and Wim Hof Method instructor, Amy Pysden and promises a “truly nature-driven experience”. 

If you are still feeling the effects of the night, then don’t worry, the swim is followed by a breakfast at the local beachside institution The Kiosk.
