After selling out in its debut year, Coonawarra’s dog-friendly Woof & Wine Walk is returning this November, and this time organisers are turning it into an entire weekend.
Running across Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15, the Woof & Wine Weekend will combine cellar doors, regional food, dog-friendly activities and a brand-new pup yoga session.
The main Woof & Wine Walk will take place on Saturday from 10.30am to 4pm, with guests and their dogs following a relaxed, self-guided trail between six Coonawarra wineries.
Brand’s Laira, DiGiorgio Family Wines, Ottelia, Redman Wines, Wynns Coonawarra Estate and Zema Estate will all take part, with the route covering just under five kilometres through the region’s vineyards.
Along the way, there will be wine tastings and regional food for humans, while four-legged visitors can get involved with puppuccinos, puppy pedicures, dog treats, a dog personality quiz and even paw-sonalised wine labels.
“People are looking for different ways to experience wine regions, with wellness, the outdoors and fun becoming an increasingly important part of the experience,” event co-organiser Dan Redman said.
“We want to create wine events that feel relaxed and approachable, attract new people to Coonawarra and give them another reason to spend a weekend in the region.”
The walk will begin and finish at DiGiorgio Family Wines, where guests can collect their tasting glass, walking map and pup pack before setting off.
There will also be plenty of opportunities for dogs to take centre stage, with a Best-Dressed Dog Contest, Canine Mini-Me Look-Alike Contest and Best Dog Trick competition planned throughout the day.
Participants are encouraged to make their way back to DiGiorgio Family Wines by 3.30pm for the grand finale and prize presentations.
This year, the event is also stretching into Sunday with the introduction of Downward Dog Pup Yoga at Rymill Coonawarra.
Running from 9.30am to 11am, the gentle one-hour session is open to all abilities, with dogs welcome to join their owners.
The $45 ticket includes the yoga session, a cheese and tomato croissant, glass of Rymill NV Sparkling, tea and coffee, plus homemade treats for the dogs.
“We really want to encourage people from Adelaide and Melbourne to make a weekend of Woof & Wine this year,” event co-organiser Sally McDonald from Zema Estate said.
“Coonawarra and the Limestone Coast have so much to offer visitors travelling with dogs.”
Tickets for Saturday’s Woof & Wine Walk start at $30 for a walker without a dog, with one person and one dog priced at $35, while two people and one dog or a family with one dog costs $50.
The event is also officially registered with the Companion Card program, allowing eligible carers to attend free.
