If you are like me and looking for a gardening book to help you design and create your dream low-maintenance garden, then look no further.
This book has a nice, easy-to-follow layout with the first section of the book being about designing a low-maintenance garden. From choosing whether to plant lawn and organising insect and weed control, to deciding on what to plant and what not to plant, this section has you covered.
The second part of the book gives the reader lots of information on specific plants. There’s a wide variety of plants featured in the book, more than 250 to be precise, and author Stephanie Jackson includes both common, well-known species and those that are a little more exotic and rare. She includes some history and facts about each species and then you can make an informed choice about if it would be well-suited to your garden.
She has included some traditional gardening ideas, including building vegetable gardens, but also introduced readers to ideas a little outside the box if you are short of room or want something a bit more creative. This includes planting flowers in an old boot.
Jackson has written this book with laid-back style and subtle humour, and as a reader I felt like I was having a conversation with a friend.
A wonderful feature of this book is the beautiful, bright photographs that are very engaging and inspiring with lots of useful information on garden planning and common problems that you could run into, plant care, and the physical and mental benefits of gardening.
With the help of this book, anyone can turn their outdoor space into their perfect garden.
