Top 10 events in Adelaide this September

With Spring in the air it’s the perfect chance to get out and about and we’ve narrowed down the top events not miss this September.

With the chill of winter slowly beginning to fade, we have the warmth of spring to look forward to.

Luckily, September is chock full of events and special occasions to celebrate the start of spring! To help you plan the month ahead, we have gathered a list of events taking place across SA throughout September.

It’s also Fathers Day at the start of the month, with dozens of events happening around the State, which we’ve pulled together in a guide here.

1) Hahndorf. Handmade. Handcrafted. Handpicked | 1 – 30 September

A returning crowd-favourite, you can travel up to Hahndorf for a celebration of their rich artisan culture over a month-long festival in September. The festiva has more than 300 unique experiences in and around the Main Street of the historic village. 

Filled with bespoke experiences for all ages and tastes, you can find great events from food & drink, art & craft, family fun, fashion & beauty, history & story-telling, workshops & masterclasses. There is something for everyone!

2) Royal Adelaide Show | 3 – 11 September

South Australia’s iconic Royal Adelaide Show returns in 2023 for another year of jam-packed carnival entertainment.

The best of the country returns to the city for nine days of activity starting on Saturday, 2 September. Royal Adelaide Show CEO Will Rayner said the team was working hard behind the scenes to ensure that this year’s Show will be one of the best ever.

“South Australians love the Royal Adelaide Show and we can’t wait to welcome people from across the state back to Wayville,” Will said.

3) Small Batch: A Spirit Tasting Event | 9 September

The incredible Mortlock Wing at the State Library of South Australia will play host to a special event this weekend: ‘Small Batch: A Spirit Tasting Event.’

For one night only, people can enjoy an evening of tasting spirits from smaller South Australian distilleries and spirit makers, with some more well-known names set to make an appearance along with some newer names to the scene.

4) Barossa Spring Fair | 16 September

The team behind the Barossa Spring Fair has announced that the fun-filled family event will be returning this September, promising another day of activities, stalls, face-painting, games, and more.

The free event attracted approximately 2,000 people in its first year, so we can only image what goodies will be in store this time around.

5) The Art of Banksy: Without Limits | 26 August – 30 September

Calling all art enthusiasts and fans of the enigmatic street artist Banksy! Get ready for an extraordinary experience as “The Art of Banksy: Without Limits” exhibition arrives in Adelaide this week. 

Prepare to be captivated by over 150 works by Banksy, including certified originals, prints, photos, lithographs, sculptures, murals, and video mapping installations. These remarkable pieces have been curated especially for this tour and will be displayed in various custom-built experiential areas, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the art and gain a deeper understanding of Banksy’s life and work.

6) Victor Harbor Rock ‘n’ Roll Festival | 15 – 17 September

Spread over two and a half days, the festival is jam packed full of activities with Rock n Roll literally taking over the town for the weekend. Market stalls selling rock ‘n’ roll, rockabilly, retro, vintage or automotive-related products, Hot Rods and of course, plenty of live music!

7) Oktoberfest in the Garden | 23 September

‍It’s Australia’s biggest Oktoberfest celebration for a reason – more festivities, fun, and frothies for you to enjoy! With 2023 being no exception, get ready for a huge range of authentic German beers, wines, cider and food stalls accompanied by all your local favourites.

It’s an unforgettable day partying Bavarian-style.

8) City-Bay Fun Run | 17 September

The City Bay Fun Run returns to Adelaide on 17 September, featuring distances like a 21.1km Half Marathon, 12km, 6km, and 3km runs/walks.

While elite athletes participate, most join for enjoyment, with many dressing up to support charities or promote local businesses. The route offers entertainment and cheers from fellow participants and spectators.

9) ST. ALi Italian Film Festival 2023 | 20 September – 15 October

The ST. ALi Italian Film Festival Presented by Palace will return to cinema screens this September-October, showcasing a superb selection of the best new films from Italy. You’ll be whisked away on an adventurous escape to Italy.

10) Seafood Street Festival at Madame Hanoi | 21 August – 20 September

It’s a staple on the Adelaide Culinary scene and for good reason with Madame Hanoi serving up some of the best cuisines this side of the Torrens and now, the French-Vietnamese eatery is inviting you on a culinary journey through the streets of Hanoi with its inaugural Seafood Street Festival.

Picture this: the freshest catch, the finest ingredients, and a brand-new Head Chef steering the ship. From August 22 to September 30, the Seafood Street Festival at Madame Hanoi returns.
