When and where to fill up on petrol this week will be key for motorists in states that are permitted regional or interstate road travel and want to save on fuel.

In the lead up to the long weekend, motorists in Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth are advised to fill up on petrol now, as prices are expected to rise this week.

Here in Adelaide, the advice is to hold off until Friday, if possible, as prices are set to fall throughout the week.

The latest quarterly petrol analysis from comparethemarket.com.au has been released ahead the long weekend.

Motorists in Adelaide had some of the cheapest fuel in the country, averaging 120 cents per litre (cpl) over the last quarter, but was 12cpl more than in the quarter to June.

There was only a 4cpl difference in prices between the cheapest subregion over the quarter (Adelaide West, at 118cpl), and the most expensive (Central and Hills subregion, at 122cpl).

As of Monday morning, the cheapest fuel in Adelaide – and the country – could be found in the north-east suburb of Hillcrest, at 95cpl.

Adelaide motorists hitting the road should wait until Friday to fill up their tanks, as prices are predicted to fall throughout the week.

We’re told that each day motorists wait, it will save them money.
