Far from Plain Jane is a Leigh Street destination

Two-storey Plain Jane sits where COS once was. Elegant and open, the heritage-listed building has been transformed into a funky, inviting bar and restaurant.

Leigh Street is absolutely an Adelaide destination. With bars and food joints aplenty, the cry of “let’s go to Leigh” is a frequent one on a Saturday night (or a work night, we won’t lie).

For those reasons, amongst others, we were more than eager to check out the new addition to the Leigh Street scene.

Meet Plain Jane

Two-storey Plain Jane sits where the much-adored COS once was, and is anything but plain. Elegant and open, the heritage-listed building has been transformed into a funky, inviting bar and restaurant.

During the daytime, breakfast and lunch is the name of the game. Punters will find an extensive menu, featuring brunch classics with a contemporary twist, such as Napoletana Eggs, a Calabrian Breakfast, and of course, Plain Jane’s Bacon & Eggs. Come lunchtime, expect dishes including Vegetarian Arancini, Oven Baked Chicken Wings, Fusilli Ragu, and SA Oysters.

Then, of course, there’s the drinks menu. Plain Jane has certainly set itself up as a legitimate contender in Leigh Street’s bar scene.

We’ve taken a peek at the cocktail list and everything sounds pretty damn good. Special shout out to the Not Your Nonna’s Sticky Date Pudding (toffee infused vodka, Kahlua milk, dash of cream). Yes. I know. Same for you?

Prepared for drinkers, dancers, and diners alike, Plain Jane’s impressive fit out seems geared towards success. The two-storey building has been used in its entirety, with a large capacity on both levels. It is as though the potential of the space has never fully been realised until now. Upstairs is remarkably large, with another bar, chandeliers, and a series of striking, almost floor to ceiling murals.

It is transformative in nature, ideal for a Saturday night out or a potential corporate function. For anyone on the hunt for staff Christmas party venues, it’s certainly worth a peek.

It looks as though Leigh Street has welcomed Plain Jane with open arms, and with a “packed” opening weekend, it seems the people of Adelaide are keen to do the same.

You can find Plain Jane at 18 Leigh St, Adelaide SA 5000.

Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 7am-3pm, Friday 7am-2am, Saturday 7am-2am.
