Hundreds of new preschool places are on the way for Adelaide’s rapidly growing northern suburbs, with two more sites announced as part of a wider early learning expansion across the region.
The new preschools will be built at Two Wells Primary School and Evanston Gardens Primary School, with each providing 44 places when they open in 2028.
The State Government has allocated $15 million to the two projects, including $7.7 million for Two Wells and $7.3 million for Evanston Gardens.
They join eight other new or expanded preschool projects already planned across Adelaide’s north, backed by a further $60 million investment.
Those sites are at Taparra in Elizabeth Downs, Munno Para, Eyre, Virginia Primary School, Pooraka Primary School, Elizabeth East Primary School, Salisbury North Primary School and Blakeview.
Across the 10 projects, almost 500 preschool places are expected to be created through completely new services, replacement facilities and expansions of existing preschools.
Education Minister Lucy Hood said the additional facilities were designed to keep pace with the number of young families moving into the northern suburbs.
“New preschools and upgraded facilities are vital to support the growing number of families moving to our northern suburbs,” Minister Hood said.
“These new sites at Two Wells and Evanston Gardens add to a significant suite of projects delivering hundreds of places and ensuring high-quality early education in the region.”
Two Wells in particular is emerging as a growing education precinct.
A $3.5 million expansion of the Two Wells Children’s Centre has recently been completed, while work on a separate $10 million upgrade of Two Wells Primary School is expected to begin in 2027.
The new preschool will be co-located with the primary school and existing children’s centre, creating a more connected pathway for families from early childhood education into school.
Two Wells Primary School Principal Kirsty Brumby said the addition would make the transition into primary education easier for local families.
“We are excited to welcome a new preschool, which will provide families in the Two Wells community with a seamless and supportive start to their children’s learning journey,” Kirsty said.
“This investment ensures our youngest learners have access to quality early childhood education, right alongside their progression into primary school.”
The projects form part of South Australia’s broader rollout of preschool for three-year-olds, which began in 2026.
More than 7,500 three-year-olds are expected to have access to two years of preschool during 2027, with statewide access planned to progressively expand until every South Australian child is eligible by 2032.
The program is part of the State Government’s $1.9 billion Flying Start early childhood reforms and is intended to give children earlier access to teacher-led, play-based learning.
Design work is also underway for the eight other northern suburbs preschool projects, with all of those sites expected to be operating by 2029.
For families in areas including Two Wells, Evanston Gardens, Munno Para, Virginia and Blakeview, the growing network will mean hundreds of additional preschool places as Adelaide’s northern communities continue to expand.
