A football musical is headed to the Adelaide Fringe

If bigwigs, bald caps, and beer chuggin’ bozos set to rockin’ music sounds like a good time you will love this showcase of South Australian musical talent.

After an incredibly successful inaugural season, More Than a Game is returning to the Adelaide Fringe for its second season.

More Than a Game is an entirely original, hour-long, comedy rock-musical about the out of shape, out of touch men that long ago were famous for their exploits on the footy field.

The show opens with Billy Brownless being interviewed by Sam Newman on a “very special” yet very public episode of The Footy Show,  where Billy stammers unable to confront his delicate feelings on national television.

Only through song and only to us the audience can Billy express his innermost feelings on the public news of his ex-wife’s relationship with his life-long mate and co-star on The Footy Show, Garry Lyon.

Whether you know the real story or not you’ll enjoy the comic journey through Billy’s past as he recalls the origins of his relationships to understand and piece together his broken heart.

Akin to Shane Warne the Musical, More Than a Game pokes fun whilst having fun with anthemic sing-along music and a live rocking band. With an entirely South Australian crew and a cast of six actors and a full five-piece band, More Than a Game will electrify Star Theatre’s main stage.  With wall-to-wall tunes, this entirely original comedy musical will have you crying with laughter and dancing in your seats.

After starting out small with a seventy-seat venue and outperforming expectations – with numerous sell-out performances and every reviewer that saw the show giving it 5 stars, More Than a Game is returning bigger and better.

This year the production has upgraded to a 350-seat venue and aims to share their work to as large an audience as possible.

Adding musical theatre flare to a national football scandal is unconventional yet ingenious.

In a society where footballers often sit at the pinnacle of political, social, and cultural hierarchy, this mock musical pokes fun at the privileges our Aussie sporting stars receive.

A story of traditional hyper-masculinity meshed with jazz hands, quirky characters, and catchy tunes makes  More Than A Game  an unforgettable and wildly hilarious production.

More Than A Game opens on February 19th at Star Theatres, 143 to 145 Sir Donald Bradman Dr, Hilton, SA, 5033
