Carols by Candlelight cancelled but alternative options on the cards

The 2020 Novita Carols by Candlelight in Elder Park has been cancelled, but officials say the event may go ahead in a different format.

The 2020 Novita Carols by Candlelight will not go ahead in Elder Park due to COVID-19.

“As a consequence of the on-going COVID-19 regulations and restrictions, and in the interests of public health and safety, the difficult decision has been made to cancel Carols by Candlelight in its traditional format in Elder Park for 2020,” says Novita CEO Greg Ward.

A virtual option is now being actively explored for an alternative Carols by Candlelight event in December, and Novita hopes to be in a position to make an announcement shortly.

“Given the uncertainty around large public gatherings and prevailing COVID-19 restrictions, it is clear that it would not be possible to go ahead with Carols by Candlelight in Elder Park this year in a viable way,” says Ward.

“As the custodian of the event, the safety and wellbeing of the South Australian kids, families, artists, musicians, staging staff and volunteers that would usually attend Carols by Candlelight in Elder Park is our first priority,” he continues.

“Carols by Candlelight has been a South Australian festive season institution since 1944, so it is very disappointing that the pandemic has significantly impacted the ability to stage the event in its traditional format,” concludes Ward.
