A block party paradise is taking over Gilbert Place to transform your Friday night knock offs into a mini Hawaiian vacation.

Kicking off at 2pm on Friday December 17, say aloha to starting your weekend downtime early with tiki cocktails, banging tunes and vacation vibes for the “Last Day” block party.

Gilbert Place residents Hains & Co, Blue Venus, Memphis Slim’s House of Blues and Shotgun Willie’s will be teaming up for the Friday afternoon event which will run into the night until 2am.

Gilbert Place’s party is a Caribbean-themed, where freshly cracked Bacardi coconuts and tiki cocktails will be served on the street alongside and a champagne bar serving all things bubbly.

An island-style barbeque will kill your hunger with all of the deck chairs out for you to kick your feet up.

Day adios to another year on the job while DJs soundtrack your afternoon. From 2pm to 8pm JD / Sid Who? will be spinning tunes. From 8pm to 10pm: Ant Williams will be playing while Smiley will be sending it from 10pm to 12am.

Simultaneously, the Solomon Street Block Party will be taking off a few streets away with Cry Baby, 1000 Island and Sunny’s Pizza shaking it up in an ultimate collaboration which you can find out more about here.

The seven venues across these popular hotspots are coming together to create the perfect storm of disco, drinks, and DJs, thanks to sponsors Bacardi-Martini Australia and the Adelaide Economic Development Agency.

“The small bars of Adelaide have come together to throw an epic street party with two events that people can bounce between,” says Sean Howard, Operations Manager of Cry Baby, Memphis Slim’s House of Blues and Shotgun Willie’s.

For both block parties, cocktails will be made by Memphis Slim’s House of Blues bartenders Grace Rawlins and Michael Keogh. Grace has won national awards for her bar craft, and most recently won Rookie of The Year at the 20th Annual Bartender Magazine Bar Awards.

Total capacity for each party is 700, and as an outdoor event, standing and drinking is allowed. Entry is free and revellers are encouraged to move between the two areas.

The block parties follow the huge success of Cry Baby Fest in 2019.

The Last Day Gilbert Place Block Party will take place at Gilbert Place, Adelaide.

The event will run on Friday December 17 from 2pm-2am.
