A really good steak is pretty hard to beat. Tender in the middle, charred around the edges, cooked just right and packed with flavour, it is the kind of meal that can be deceptively simple but difficult to perfect.
While there are plenty of places to order a steak, finding that balance of quality beef, fire and careful cooking is another matter.
Mount Barker’s new steakhouse, Toros, is putting those elements front and centre at its Morphett Street venue, bringing a dedicated steakhouse experience to the Adelaide Hills.
The menu is built around premium cuts, slow-cooked ribs, live-fire cooking and hearty dishes designed for long lunches, dinners and celebrations.
“The open grill fire is the heart of everything we do,” head chef Bishes Giri said.
And the steak menu gives diners plenty to choose from.
There are five cuts on offer, ranging from a 250g rump through to a 300g boneless ribeye.
The line-up includes a 100-day grain-fed Victorian rump for $33, a 300g porterhouse, a 300g Wagyu rump from South East Queensland for $45 and a premium grain-fed boneless ribeye..
But Toros has been designed for more than serious steak fans.
Loaded schnitzels, burgers, wood-fired pizzas, seafood, pasta, salads and sides round out the menu, making it the kind of place where everyone at the table can order something completely different.
Then there are the ribs.
The pitmaster pork ribs are grilled over flame and coated in Toros’ signature Texas Rib Sauce, while the Angus beef rib is slow-cooked before being charred and glazed.
For those who do not want to choose between the two, the $89 ribs platter combines pork and Angus beef ribs with house slaw and fries.

The schnitzel menu also goes well beyond the classic.
The Islander is topped with cheese, pineapple, bacon and smoky BBQ sauce, while The Maverick combines garlic mushrooms, melted cheese and creamy mushroom sauce.
The Toros Royale takes things up another level, topping a chicken or beef schnitzel with garlic butter prawns and creamy garlic sauce.
Whether you’re a steak or schnitty fan, there’s a little something for each type of taste.

Inside, the restaurant is dark and moody, with walnut tones creating a warm backdrop for long dinners and special occasions.
Toros also has three dedicated spaces for events and functions: The Vault, Chef’s Table and The Bull Room.
Bishes previously told Glam Adelaide that Mount Barker’s rapidly growing community played a major role in the decision to open the restaurant in the Hills.
“We saw a real opportunity to bring a premium steakhouse to the hills … so locals don’t have to travel to Adelaide for quality meals.”
Now officially open, Toros is bringing live-fire cooking, substantial cuts and a broad menu to the heart of Mount Barker.
