A Royal Park man has become an instant millionaire after scoring more than $1.2 million in Keno, but rather than rushing out on a spending spree, he has already made one particularly sensible move.
The Adelaide resident won the Keno Spot 10 jackpot in draw 260816 272 on Sunday, August 16, taking home a life-changing $1,244,714.30.
Even better, there was no carefully crafted collection of lucky numbers behind the win. His winning entry was simply a random QuickPick.
The winner had already left Seven 22 on Port Road in Beverley when he remembered he still needed to check his ticket.
“I had no idea. I had just left the venue when I remembered to check my ticket,” he said.
“I had a look online and saw all the numbers. I quickly raced back to see if it was really true and it was.”
By Monday morning, the reality of suddenly having more than $1.2 million in the bank was still sinking in.
“It’s so surreal,” he laughed.
And while plenty of us might immediately start mentally shopping for houses, holidays and new cars, the Royal Park winner took a slightly more measured approach.
“It’s completely life-changing. We’ve already seen a financial advisor so we can set ourselves up,” he said.
“Once it all settles and it feels real, we’ll be able have more of an idea of what we’ll do.”
The winning Keno Spot 10 entry was purchased at Seven 22, 722 Port Road, Beverley, where the team quickly joined in the celebrations.
Seven 22 manager Kelli Pearce said staff were thrilled to discover they had sold the massive winning ticket.
“It was so exciting! We couldn’t believe it and even all the chefs came out to celebrate!” she said.
“Even the person that sold it thought the win was $12,000 but it was a lot more than that!”
The venue appears to be enjoying a lucky run too, having sold a division two Saturday X Lotto winning entry only a couple of weeks earlier.
“We’re hoping this winning streak continues,” Kelli said.
“Congratulations to the winning man! We’re so happy for you and we hope you enjoy the prize.”
To win Keno Spot 10, players need to match all 10 numbers selected on their ticket with 10 of the 20 numbers randomly drawn from a possible 80.
For this Royal Park winner, it was a completely random selection that delivered a very deliberate next move: making sure his newfound fortune is in good hands.
