Adelaide is heading into a mostly calm run of late winter weather, with sunshine dominating the weekend before a wetter change arrives early next week. For locals, that means a stretch of crisp mornings, mild afternoons and light winds, with the pick of the weather landing across Saturday through Monday before showers return from Tuesday.
Today, Adelaide is looking mostly sunny with a top of 21 degrees and only a very slim chance of rain. Light winds will keep things comfortable across the city and suburbs, with similar conditions expected from Elizabeth to Glenelg, Noarlunga and Mount Barker.
Saturday keeps the settled pattern going, with a sunny day and a cool start around 9 degrees before reaching 21 degrees. There’s a slight chance of early fog about the hills, but for most of Adelaide it should be a clear, pleasant day with light winds. Sunday follows a similar path, though temperatures ease back a little, with a minimum of 8 and a top of 19 degrees. Skies are expected to stay mostly sunny, and once again any morning fog is more likely around the hills than the city.
Monday continues the dry spell and brings another mostly sunny day, with temperatures lifting slightly to around 20 degrees. Light winds are forecast to become northerly during the morning before easing again later in the day. It should still feel relatively settled, but it also marks the last of the cleaner, brighter weather before conditions begin to turn.
By Tuesday, Adelaide’s forecast becomes more changeable. Cloud is expected to build and showers are likely, with an 80 per cent chance of rain and possible falls of up to 5 millimetres. Temperatures will rise to 22 degrees, but stronger winds shifting from northwest to southwesterly during the day could make conditions feel less settled. Wednesday stays cooler and cloudier, with a medium chance of showers and a top of 17 degrees, while Thursday remains partly cloudy with another possible shower or two and a maximum of 18 degrees. In short, Adelaide’s seven-day outlook starts bright and easy, then leans wetter and cooler from midweek.
Across the rest of South Australia, the broad pattern is being shaped by a weakening high over New South Wales, another high to the south, and a trough near the Western Australia border. That setup is bringing the state a generally dry and warmer-than-average stretch, but the far west is the exception. Showers are forecast there today, along with possible thunderstorms near the western border. Some of those storms could turn severe, with the chance of damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rainfall.
Through the weekend, regional areas are expected to stay mostly dry, with morning fog patches around southern coastal districts on Saturday and across the agricultural area on Sunday. By Monday, much of the state should be mostly sunny and warmer, with above-average maximum temperatures continuing. Rainfall totals are expected to stay low for most districts, though the far west could see 2 to 5 millimetres, with heavier local falls near the border where thunderstorms develop.
