Adelaide is heading into a cold, unsettled weekend, with cloudy skies, a few showers and chilly mornings set to carry through much of the next week before a wetter change arrives by Tuesday.
For Friday, the city will stay mostly cloudy with just a slight chance of a shower and a top of 15 degrees. Light winds will shift westerly around the middle of the day, keeping things brisk across the metro area, with tops of 14 degrees at Elizabeth, Glenelg and Noarlunga, and 13 degrees at Mount Barker. Saturday looks to be the wettest day of the weekend, with showers likely across Adelaide and a high chance of rain from morning through the day. Temperatures will again peak at 15 degrees after a minimum of 9, while west to northwesterly winds turn westerly during the morning.
Sunday brings a small improvement, though it won’t be a complete clearing. Adelaide is forecast to be partly cloudy with a medium chance of a shower and a top of 16 degrees. Light winds should make for a calmer day overall, but it will still feel wintry, especially early with an overnight low of 9 degrees. By Monday, conditions remain fairly settled through most of the day, with partly cloudy skies and only a slight chance of a shower, most likely later in the evening. Temperatures will edge up to 17 degrees, with northerly winds strengthening through the morning and tending northwesterly.
That mild lift is expected to be brief. Tuesday is shaping up as the wettest day of the seven-day outlook, with cloudy conditions, a very high chance of showers and possible rainfall of 3 to 10 mm. Winds will become gustier too, starting northwesterly before turning southwesterly during the day, with a top of 16 degrees. Showery conditions are then expected to linger into Wednesday, with another cloudy day, a medium chance of showers and a cooler maximum of 14 degrees. Thursday stays cloudy as well, with a possible shower and a cold start of 5 degrees before reaching 14. Across the full week, Adelaide residents can expect a run of below-average winter temperatures, a damp weekend, and another decent burst of rain around Tuesday.
Across regional South Australia, a ridge of high pressure is keeping much of the state relatively stable, but it’s also bringing cold mornings, frost and patchy fog in several districts. On Friday, morning frost patches are expected about the agricultural area and southern pastoral districts, while isolated light showers affect the southern agricultural area and West Coast district before mostly contracting to southern coasts by evening. Saturday continues the cold pattern, with patchy morning frost about the northern agricultural area and Flinders district, while showers extend over the southern agricultural area before easing later in the day.
On Sunday and Monday, frost patches remain a feature in the northern agricultural area and Flinders district, with fog also likely around parts of Eyre Peninsula and the agricultural area. Rainfall totals through to the end of Monday are expected to stay fairly light for most districts, though the Mount Lofty Ranges, Kangaroo Island and Lower South East could see between 5 and 10 mm. Coastal conditions will also turn a little sharper at times, especially in the south, with fresh winds near southern coasts and rising seas for Adelaide Metropolitan Waters by Monday afternoon.
