Adelaide is in for a fairly changeable week, with a calm and cool weekend giving way to a wetter start to next week before showers ease again midweek and another front nudges in by Friday. For locals, that means a bit of everything over the next seven days: a possible light shower this morning, patchy fog inland early on Sunday, then the best chance of meaningful rain arriving on Monday and Tuesday.
Today in Adelaide is looking partly cloudy, with a medium chance of a shower this morning before conditions settle down. Westerly winds are expected to ease and become light, helping the city top out at a cool 17 degrees. It’s a similar temperature story across the suburbs, with Glenelg and Mount Barker both heading for 16 degrees, while Elizabeth and Noarlunga are forecast to reach 17.
Sunday should be one of the more pleasant days of the stretch. There’s a chance of fog early, especially for those out and about first thing, but once that clears Adelaide is set for a partly cloudy day and a slightly milder top of 19 degrees. Winds will stay fairly light, turning northerly through the morning before easing again, so it should feel calm across much of the metro area.
The weather turns more unsettled on Monday as a low pressure system and trough move across the state. In Adelaide, cloud will thicken and showers are expected to develop, most likely during the afternoon and evening. It’s shaping up as the wettest day of the week for the city, with a very high chance of rain and possible totals between 3 and 15mm. Temperatures will stay cool, with a top of 17 degrees after a morning low of 11.
Showers are likely to linger into Tuesday, especially through the morning and afternoon, before gradually easing later in the day. Southeasterly winds will swing southerly and could add a chilly edge before becoming lighter in the evening. Adelaide is again forecast to reach 17 degrees, so keep the umbrella handy for the commute.
By Wednesday, conditions start to improve. Adelaide can expect a partly cloudy day with only a slight chance of a shower and light winds, with temperatures holding steady at 17 degrees after a cooler morning minimum of 8. Thursday then brings a brighter start, with a mostly sunny morning before the chance of a shower later in the day. A northerly breeze will help lift the temperature to 20 degrees, making it the warmest day of the week.
Friday looks set to finish the run on a more unsettled note, with a high chance of showers returning as winds shift from north to northwesterly around to the south to southwesterly during the day. Adelaide is forecast to reach 18 degrees, with up to 9mm possible if showers become more widespread.
Across South Australia, the broader picture is much more active than what Adelaide will see today. Early morning fog is expected through parts of the agricultural area, nearby West Coast and Pastoral districts, while frost is possible around the Flinders and Mid North. The far northwest could see isolated showers and possible thunderstorms today, with that instability expanding on Sunday as showers and storms spread across the west and tend to rain in the far northwest. By Monday and Tuesday, showers are expected statewide, with rain developing in parts of the pastoral districts and possibly extending into the West Coast and Flinders. Thunderstorms remain possible in the north and west, and some regions could pick up significant totals by Tuesday, particularly parts of the west coast, northern agricultural areas, and southern and northwestern pastoral districts, where isolated falls of 25 to 50mm are possible with thunderstorms.
