Adelaide is in for a cool, cloudy and fairly damp stretch of weather, with showers building through the end of the week before a brief break on Sunday. For locals heading out across South Australia’s capital, the biggest watch-out early today is reduced visibility, with fog and low cloud making for a tricky morning on the roads.
Today stays mostly grey across Adelaide, with just a slight chance of a passing shower and a top of 17 degrees. Westerly winds will strengthen through the morning, adding a chill to the air and keeping conditions firmly on the cool side. Thursday looks wetter, with showers likely through the morning and afternoon and another top of 17 degrees, as winds shift from west to southwesterly before easing later in the day.
By Friday, the city moves into a more unsettled pattern. Cloud will linger, fog is possible around the hills in the morning, and showers are expected to become more widespread. Adelaide is tipped to reach 19 degrees, though the damp conditions may make it feel cooler at times. Northerly winds will pick up during the day before turning northwesterly into the evening, ahead of a windier change.
Saturday looks like the blustery day of the week, with showers most likely in the morning before gradually easing. Winds will be strong at times, swinging from west to northwesterly and then turning west to southwesterly during the day. The maximum is expected to stay around 17 degrees, so it’s shaping up as another brisk day across the metro area.
There’s a bit of a breather on Sunday, with partly cloudy skies and a top of 20 degrees. A late shower can’t be ruled out, but after several cooler, wetter days it should feel like a more settled finish to the weekend. Monday brings similar temperatures, again reaching 20 degrees, with a medium chance of showers and a southeasterly breeze developing during the morning. By Tuesday, cloud cover deepens once more and showers become more likely, with Adelaide dropping slightly to a top of 18 degrees.
Across regional South Australia, the week tells a mixed story. The south and agricultural districts are set for the most active weather, with isolated showers today becoming more frequent on Thursday in southern districts. Rain then spreads more broadly on Friday, extending from the west over agricultural areas and into the south of the pastoral districts, with thunderstorms also possible in the west and south. Saturday sees those showers contracting east and gradually clearing, though morning thunderstorms remain possible in the Lower South East, Flinders district and the south of the North East Pastoral.
Rainfall totals by the end of Saturday are expected to be heaviest in the Mount Lofty Ranges and Lower South East, where local falls of 15 to 25 mm are possible, with isolated higher totals in the Mount Lofty Ranges. Northern areas will generally stay warmer than the south, while fresh and gusty winds are expected at times, especially around the agricultural districts and exposed coasts. For coastal communities and anyone on the water, conditions also become rougher at times through the next few days.
