48 Flavours has opened its doors to a new store in Fulham gardens. Located inside one of Adelaide’s premier Sub Regional Shopping Centres, this new gelato haven has earned its reputation for offering an extensive, ever-evolving selection of gelato flavours.
From exotic options like Taro and Coconut to classics like Black Magic and Salted Lime, their flavour range is huge. Whether you prefer cups, cones, take-home packs, indulgent milkshakes, or custom gelato cakes, 48 Flavours has something to satisfy everyone.
Brian O’Donnell, the founder and creative director of 48 Flavours, expressed his enthusiasm for the new location, saying, “Our mission has always been to create premium gelato we are proud of, using fresh local ingredients, and to make each visitor to our store feel part of this ever-growing family. From the onset, this location has felt like the perfect place to continue on that mission.”
“We love the close locality to a lot of the schools. The new venue’s also located in the western suburbs where it’s really accessible, alongside lots of seating inside and parking as well. We love the area, we’re familiar with it and live close by which is handy as well,” Co-owner and Brian’s daughter Stephanie O’Donnell says.
The expansion to Fulham Gardens marks yet another step in 48 Flavours’ journey to spread their love of gelato across South Australia. With existing stores in Trinity Gardens, Gouger Street, Paralowie Village Shopping Centre, Hyde Park, and Henley Beach, this family-owned and operated South Aussie brand is determined to reach every corner of the state.
“My father started the company, but my partner and I invested. Since investing, it’s been a duo effort and it has been great to see the business grow from strength to strength with one store in Gouger Street to now six. We also have some other investors as well such as Rad Ventures,” Stephanie says.
The Fulham Gardens community has warmly welcomed the gelateria, with many newcomers discovering the brand.
“A lot of people coming to see us in the first week were totally new to our brand, so it’s been nice to grow our community. The turnout on our opening day was fantastic! We had an amazing turnout, and since then, it’s been really steady. It’s a great sign. It’s been really exciting so far,” Stephanie says.
A key element of the new store’s design is its immersive experience. Robert Pisanello from Eon Designs played a crucial role in shaping the retail environment. The aim was to provide a space where customers could feel fully immersed in the 48 Flavours experience, from seeing the vibrant colours of the gelato tubs to the contemporary design elements.
48 Flavours is known for its commitment to sourcing fresh, local ingredients.
“We’re family-owned and operated. We have a big relationship with Harvestime, which is where we source a lot of our ingredients. Since having a relationship with him, our product has only gotten even better!”
The brand has earned acclaim for its award-winning flavours, making it the only gelateria in South Australia that produces these unique combinations. Some of their most popular options are award-winning, showcasing their dedication to quality and creativity.
48 flavours have won over 50 gold medals at the South Australian Dairy Awards, and three champion gelato trophies since participating in the prestigious awards since 2018.
In this year’s SADA, 48 flavours were awarded gold and silver places for flavours such as Hazelnut, Lemon Cheesecake, Hazelnut, French Vanilla, Salted Caramel and many more. They were also awarded Top God Real Dairy Australian Medallion for their ‘Pear, Fig and Gorgonzola’ which experienced international success at the 2017 Gelato World Tour in Italy.
“The most popular flavours are our award-winning ones. We’ve also got new ones like passionfruit and pear, ginger and cinnamon. Some of those flavours you won’t find really anywhere else,” Stephanie says.
