Adelaide is set to experience a mix of showers clearing up today with mostly cloudy skies, followed by a brighter, partly cloudy Tuesday, according to the latest weather forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology.
Today, residents can expect a medium chance of showers primarily in the morning, with possible rainfall ranging from 1 to 3 mm with a 70% probability of rain. These conditions are accompanied by westerly winds of 15 to 25 km/h that will ease later in the afternoon.
Across South Australia, today’s weather will see isolated showers around the southern agricultural area, which are expected to recede towards the southern coasts in the afternoon. Morning fog patches may also appear in the west. Temperatures across the region will likely be below average for this time of year, with winds varying from south to southeasterly in the northern and western parts, swinging to west to southwesterly in the southern regions.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, 10 September, Adelaide’s weather will see an improvement with only a 10% chance of rain and milder conditions overall. The day will begin with a possible morning fog, especially around the northern suburbs, and light winds throughout the day. The temperature is forecasted to peak at 20 degrees after a morning low of 9 degrees.
For the broader region of South Australia, Tuesday will also bring possible morning fog and frost, primarily affecting the agricultural areas. Although showers will remain near southern coasts, the northwest is set to see a more dynamic change with showers and potential thunderstorms developing. Temperature-wise, the region can anticipate mostly above-average maximums for the day. Wind conditions will range from southeast to northeasterly across the northern and western parts, with generally light winds reported elsewhere.
The current weather pattern over South Australia is influenced by a band of middle and high-level clouds moving slowly northeastwards over the northern pastoral districts, which is forecasted to clear out of SA early this morning. Following this, a ridge of high pressure is expected to settle over the south of the state early in the week, providing some respite from the showers. However, this will be short-lived as a cold front and trough are predicted to move across the southern part of the state by mid-week, likely bringing another change in weather conditions.
Residents and visitors in Adelaide and across South Australia should prepare for variable weather conditions at the start of the week, with clearer skies expected by Tuesday, but potentially unsettled weather could return by the middle of the week with the approaching cold front.
