Residents in Adelaide and surrounding areas can expect varying weather conditions over the weekend into early next week, with forecasts predicting mostly sunny skies today, cloud clearing on Sunday, and a possibility of showers by Monday.
Today, Adelaide will enjoy mostly sunny weather with a high of 27 degrees. However, there is a slight chance of showers and a potential thunderstorm in the afternoon. Winds are expected to pick up, starting from the southwest at 15 to 25 km/h and increasing to 25 to 35 km/h around midday, before shifting to southerly winds in the evening.
As we move into Sunday, the minimum morning temperature will drop to 13 degrees, rising to a pleasant 26 degrees by the afternoon. The day will start with some cloud cover, which is expected to clear as the day progresses. Wind directions will shift throughout the day, starting light and becoming south to southwesterly at 15 to 25 km/h, then finally turning southeasterly in the evening.
The start to the new week brings a slight change, with Monday forecasted to have a minimum of 13 degrees and a maximum of 29 degrees. It will be partly cloudy with a medium chance of showers, most likely occurring in the morning and afternoon. The winds will follow a similar pattern to Sunday, beginning from the east to southeast at 15 to 20 km/h, then switching to south to southwest during the day and returning to south to southeast in the evening. The chance of rain increases slightly to 40 percent.
For water enthusiasts and mariners, a Strong Wind Warning has been issued for today in the Spencer Gulf area, so caution is advised.
The BOM has cancelled the previous heatwave and severe thunderstorm warnings for the North West Pastoral District and other southeastern regions, including Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, and Kangaroo Island.
Regions further out from the city will experience varied conditions today. The pastoral districts will see showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the far north, with the possibility of severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will be slightly below average near the coast and average to above inland.
As the second trough that extends from Western Australia over the southern districts of South Australia moves slowly northeastwards today, the weather situation is expected to remain dynamic. A high pressure ridge moving across the south of South Australia will stabilize conditions over the weekend and into next week.
