AdYO’s Youth Revolution Gala Concert: August 31, Adelaide Town Hall
Farewell winter with an afternoon of exceptional classical music guaranteed to put a spring in your step, as AdYO presents its annual Youth Revolution Gala Concert on Sunday August 31 within the glorious surrounds of the Adelaide Town Hall.
A near sell-out event over the past three years, this popular concert showcases the talents of all four AdYO orchestras: Adelaide Youth Wind Orchestra, Adelaide Youth Strings, Adelaide Youth Sinfonia and the organisation’s flagship ensemble – the Adelaide Youth Orchestra.
The 2014 Gala Concert program will appeal to young and old with a diverse mix of entertaining orchestral works. The Adelaide Youth Orchestra – comprising around 70 of SA’s most talented young musicians (this year aged between 13 and 24) – will present the Gala’s show-stopping finale: Dvořák’s much loved Symphony No 9 From the New World.
As the only concert event on AdYO’s busy season calendar to include performances by all four orchestras, the Gala is always highly anticipated by audiences and musicians alike.
“On show day, the back-rooms of the concert hall are literally buzzing as just over 220 young musicians tune up all manner of instruments and wait for their moment to take to the stage,” says AdYO’s Artistic Director and conductor of the Adelaide Youth Orchestra, Associate Professor Keith Crellin OAM. “Once onstage, the exceptional level of musical ability and professionalism displayed by even our youngest players never fails to impress me – nor those in the audience.”
The Adelaide Youth Wind Orchestra – featuring 32 high school and tertiary-aged woodwind and brass musicians, along with percussionists – will open up this year’s Gala Concert program. They’ll be followed by a performance from the Adelaide Youth Strings, comprising 60 primary school aged musicians. After interval, the Adelaide Youth Sinfonia – featuring just under 60 string, woodwind, brass and percussion musicians at both high school and tertiary level – will warm up the stage for their bigger sister – the Adelaide Youth Orchestra.
