Beloved Barossa patisserie moving into historic 1860 bakery with pastry classes and pizza afternoons

A beloved Barossa patisserie is moving into a much larger historic Greenock venue, with expanded dining and wood-fired pizza nights planned for spring and summer.

One of the Barossa Valley’s most loved patisseries is preparing for an exciting new chapter, relocating to a beautifully restored historic bakery in Greenock that’s set to offer far more than just pastries.

Cheryse Zagler Patisserie and Farm Shop will soon open at 15 Murray Street, Greenock, in a building that originally operated as a bakery in the 1860s. The move comes just over a year after pastry chef and owner Cheryse Zagler opened her original Nuriootpa store, which she thought would be “a quiet little patisserie.”

“That didn’t happen at all,” she told Glam Adelaide.

“It became a fully fledged big, big thing.”

What began with Cheryse, her husband Daniel and one staff member has quickly grown into a team of 13, with demand outpacing the current Nuriootpa space.

“We love our site here, but we have definitely outgrown it very fast,” Cheryse said.

The new Greenock home is larger and has been thoughtfully renovated into a warm, country-inspired space while retaining the character of the historic building. Although significantly more spacious than the original patisserie, Cheryse says maintaining the welcoming atmosphere customers have come to love remains a priority.

“It’s all exposed wooden beams, and still the white, rustic tones of our Nuriootpa site,” she said.

“The biggest thing for us is keeping the warm feeling that you get when you walk in the door.”

The move also unlocks a range of new experiences that simply weren’t possible in the original shop.

A standout addition will be hands-on pastry classes, where Cheryse will teach guests how to create everything from buttery croissants and brioche to elegant sweet tarts.

The venue is also home to a wood-fired pizza oven, which will be brought to life for seasonal pizza afternoons and special “Croissants & Chords” events. These relaxed sessions will pair live local music with fresh pastries, wood-fired pizzas and slow-cooked meats, creating a laid-back gathering that celebrates great food and the Barossa community.

Inside, customers will also be able to watch pastries being crafted in a dedicated open pastry room behind French-style glass doors, while the backyard has been transformed into a family-friendly space complete with a cubby house, landscaped gardens and a chicken coop.

“There’s quite a bit in the works, and this premises gives me those options, whereas our old site, unfortunately, just doesn’t give me those options,” Cheryse said.

The Nuriootpa store will trade for the final time on Saturday before the team relocates, with the new Greenock patisserie officially opening on Thursday, August 13.

For Cheryse, the move marks more than a change of address. It’s the beginning of a new chapter that expands on the patisserie’s loyal following while creating even more ways for visitors to experience the warmth, creativity and community that have made it a Barossa favourite.
