Carols by Candlelight event to go ahead with intimate virtual spin

An all-star list of performers has been confirmed for this year’s virtual Carols by Candlelight celebration, to be held on December 13th.

Adelaide’s Sealink Travel Group Carols by Candlelight event is adapting to the times of 2020, with a virtual celebration featuring performances from across Australia to be broadcast on Sunday December 13 on the Seven Network’s video on-demand service, 7plus.

It may not be at Elder Park like previous years, but Adelaide families will be happy to see 7NEWS favourites Rosanna Mangiarelli, Mark Soderstrom and Amelia Mulcahy, who are thrilled to be returning to co-host this year’s virtual event.

An all-star list of performers has been confirmed, with the likes of Dami Im, Troy Cassar-Daley, Isaiah Firebrace, Annie Jones and Amber Lawrence to headline the SeaLink Carols by Candlelight. One other iconic Aussie artist is still yet to be announced.

“Christmas is such a special time of the year and I feel privileged to be involved in the first ever SeaLink Carols by Candlelight virtual event! It will be a new Carols experience for me, but at least we still get the opportunity to come together in a different way,” says Dami, who won The X Factor in 2013 and represented Australian in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.

The virtual event will be a pre-recorded 1-hour package, where some artists will invite viewers into their loungerooms and home studios, while others will perform from their label’s recording studios.

In addition to the news of a virtual Carols, the SeaLink Carols by Candlelight is also to be screened at four, Adelaide pop-up locations. Adelaide Town Hall, Odeon Star Semaphore Cinemas, Wallis Cinema’s Mainline Drive-in and Piccadilly Cinema have donated their venues to allow carol lovers and families an interactive experience.

CEO of Novita Greg Ward says the event’s charity partner was proud to be part of another Carols by Candlelight.

“It will be very different this year, but we hope that people can have a great night with this unique concept. We give big thanks to SeaLink Travel

Group, the City of Adelaide, Wallis Cinemas and Odeon Star Semaphore Cinemas for their generosity in bringing this to life,” says Greg.

Novita staff will be at each venue on the night, and attendees are encouraged to donate a folded note contribution upon entry. All funds raised by the SeaLink Carols by Candlelight help the community-based disability organisation, which provides rehabilitation, therapy and support services to thousands of children, youth, and adults across South Australia.

SeaLink Group CEO Clint Feuerherdt, which now owns Transit Systems – last year’s naming sponsor, said it was a joy to help deliver the Carols and support Novita after a challenging year.

“There’s no doubt it’s been a particularly confronting year, especially as our tourism businesses faced multiple challenges, first with the bushfires on Kangaroo Island, followed so closely by COVID-19. We’re so proud to have navigated the year to be here now, and be in a position to help deliver the SeaLink Carols by Candlelight and supporting the valuable work of Novita. From all of us at SeaLink and Transit Systems, we hope you enjoy the Carols and we look forward to seeing you onboard a ferry or bus soon!,” says Clint.

Shauna Kane, Executive Producer at activeTV, says Australia will be amazed at how authentic the first virtual SeaLink Carols by Candlelight will be.

“We’ve got fantastic talent all letting us into their studios for an intimate performance, I don’t think it gets any more special than that,” says Shauna.

“These artists from across Australia are incredible, and we’re proud to bring the SeaLink Carols by Candlelight to Adelaide even within restricted circumstances.”

Attending either of the pop-up venues is FREE to the public. Adelaide Town Hall will have an Eventbrite ticketing link live this week, where people will need to reserve their seats online to ensure attendance numbers can be managed within COVID-safe guidelines. For those wanting to attend the Odeon Star Semaphore Cinemas, Piccadilly Cinema or Mainline Drive-In, please email [email protected] with their venue choice and number of tickets to be reserved.

On the night electric candles will be given to all guests at each venue. There will also be entertainment for the little ones and a visit from Santa Claus, with offerings specific to each location.
