If you’ve ever wanted to experience Interstellar on the biggest possible scale, this is your chance to see Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning masterpiece while Hans Zimmer’s score is performed live by a 65-piece orchestra.
Interstellar Live is heading to the Adelaide Convention Centre on Sunday, March 14th, 2027, bringing one of the most popular films of the 21st century to the big screen in a new and exciting way.
Rather than simply watching the film with a soundtrack playing in the background, audiences will see the entire movie unfold on a giant screen while a live orchestra performs the complete score in the room.
And yes, that includes the iconic pipe organ that gives the film its haunting, otherworldly sound.
Hans famously built the Interstellar score around the organ, creating music that feels almost as vast and emotional as the film itself. The original soundtrack was recorded with organist Roger Sayer, who will return to the instrument for the Australian tour, performing the music live.
It means audiences will hear the same musical voice that helped define the original film, only this time, they’ll be watching it being created right in front of them.
For fans of the 2014 blockbuster, it’s about as immersive as a movie night can get. Starring Matthew McConaughey as former pilot Cooper, Interstellar follows a team of explorers who leave a dying Earth behind to search beyond the galaxy for a new home for humanity.
The film also stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck and Sir Michael Caine, and was nominated for five Academy Awards, taking home the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
Its music was also nominated for Best Original Score, with Hans’ work becoming one of the most recognisable film scores of the past decade.
Now, audiences will get to experience every scene, all of the music and emotional moments with the orchestra sitting on stage in full view.
The production has already earned sold-out performances across Europe and five-star reviews at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
The Australian tour will mark the first time Interstellar Live has made its way Down Under, with Adelaide getting the opening night of the national run. And if the Sydney dates are anything to go by, Adelaide fans won’t want to wait too long to book, with several performances at the Sydney Opera House already sold out.
