Ondeen has confirmed a revised reopening date, with its cellar door now set to welcome guests back on Thursday, August 20.
The Adelaide Hills venue had initially planned to reopen its cellar door on Sunday, August 16, followed by the restaurant midweek. However, after regaining access to the Verdun property and carrying out a full assessment, the team found more preparation was required than first anticipated.
The additional time will allow Ondeen to reopen to the standard its guests have come to expect.
“We are thrilled to be reopening our doors, and we want to open as well and as meaningfully as we mean to go on,” Ondeen co-director Deborah Kingsbury said.
“Our heartfelt thanks go to our community for the extraordinary support we have received. It has carried us through.”
The reopening follows a Supreme Court hearing on Friday, with court orders put in place confirming Ondeen’s right to return to its Verdun home.
It marks a major turnaround for the farm-to-table restaurant, cellar door and distillery, which was unexpectedly forced to close on August 3 following the termination of its lease.
The closure created considerable uncertainty for staff, suppliers and customers, particularly couples with weddings and events booked at the venue.
Ondeen previously said it was pursuing legal options after the closure. The venue’s landlord said the lease had been terminated for default, while Ondeen disputed the circumstances surrounding the decision.
With the team now back at the property, attention has turned to preparing the venue and reconnecting with the community that supported it throughout the closure.
“We would love to see our community come back in, gather around our tables, and be part of this next chapter with us,” Deborah said.
Guests are being encouraged to return to the Cellar Door from Thursday, August 20, with the restaurant opening date yet to be confirmed. Deborah says to keep an eye on their website and socials for updates in the coming days.
Those with existing bookings before August 20 will be contacted directly to arrange a new date.
