A busy Thebarton intersection will be impacted by a full weekend road closure later this month as work continues on Adelaide’s North-South Corridor.
West Thebarton Road will temporarily close between Ann Street and South Road from 7pm Friday, August 21 until 7am Monday, August 24, with crews working continuously across the weekend.
The closure is required for drainage and bridge construction linked to the Northern Tunnels and motorway works.
While West Thebarton Road is closed, motorists will be directed around the work zone via signed detours. Local access to Ware and Ann streets will remain available throughout the closure.
The works will also affect the intersection of West Thebarton Road, Ashwin Parade and South Road, with short-term speed and lane restrictions required in the surrounding area.
Traffic controllers and signage will be in place to help motorists, cyclists and pedestrians navigate the changes.
Pedestrian access will remain unchanged, while bus services travelling along West Thebarton Road will be diverted during the closure. Passengers are encouraged to check Adelaide Metro for the latest service information before travelling.
Residents and businesses nearby may notice noise, dust and vibration as crews undertake continuous day and night works.
The project team has also flagged another temporary weekend closure of West Thebarton Road between Ann Street and South Road is expected the following weekend, although the exact details are still to be announced.
Further temporary changes to turning movements at the South Road and Ashwin Parade intersection are also planned for future weekends, with advance notice to be provided.
The works form part of construction in the Northern Precinct of the River Torrens to Darlington Project, including the new Northern Tunnels.
Motorists travelling through Thebarton from August 21 are being encouraged to allow additional travel time and follow traffic management directions.
