Adelaide’s popular Sean’s Kitchen renamed ‘The Kitchen’ as founding chef departs

Signature chef Sean Connolly is departing SkyCity Adelaide restaurant Sean’s Kitchen following almost a decade at the helm, with the popular venue to continue, renamed ‘The Kitchen’.

Iconic chef Sean Connolly bids farewell to the renowned SkyCity Adelaide restaurant, Sean’s Kitchen, where he has left an indelible mark for nearly a decade. As Sean takes his leave, the popular venue is set to be rebranded as ‘The Kitchen’ – with a new head chef at the helm.

Sean’s Kitchen made its grand debut in October 2014, becoming a popular spot in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD dining scene. With Sean Connolly and the SkyCity team at the forefront, the heritage building underwent a remarkable transformation, emerging as a high-end New York brasserie that quickly earned a reputation as one of the city’s premier dining destinations.

Reflecting on his journey, Sean Connolly expressed his immense pride in being a part of Adelaide’s vibrant food scene through Sean’s Kitchen. He conveyed his gratitude to his dedicated team, loyal customers, and the warm embrace of the city.

“This chapter may close, but you’ll still see me exploring new culinary adventures in Adelaide – as I have said before, it’s one of the most exciting food cities in the world! Thank you for the memories and the wonderful culinary journey we’ve crafted together at Sean’s Kitchen over the past 10 years,” Sean says.

While Sean’s name will no longer adorn the restaurant, the SkyCity venue will continue to thrive as ‘The Kitchen,’ under the leadership of Head Chef Kel Delaney.

David Christian, SkyCity Australia Chief Operating Officer, expressed gratitude for Sean’s nearly decade-long association with SkyCity and acknowledged the right timing for him to focus on other projects. He reassured patrons that ‘The Kitchen’ will offer the same culinary excellence and uncomplicated dining experience.

Kel Delaney, who joined Sean’s Kitchen as Head Chef over a year ago, has an impressive culinary journey of her own. After gaining experience at renowned venues worldwide, Kel returned to Adelaide in 2007, eventually becoming the first female Head Chef at the award-winning Italian restaurant Auge.

Kel has a remarkable track record, including participating as the first female chef in the Starlight Foundation’s Five Chef Dinner, showcasing Australia’s culinary talent. Her international experience led her to Malaysia and prominent roles before settling back in Adelaide.

“We’ll be sticking to the favoured formula of simple yet sophisticated; a restaurant where it’s possible to order caviar and oysters alongside your steak and chips, where you can expect fine yet approachable service and a stellar drinks selection. True New York flair,” she said.

The transition from Sean’s Kitchen to ‘The Kitchen’ will involve a brief closure from 21 January to 12 February, with the grand reopening scheduled for Tuesday, 13 February.

‘The Kitchen’ forms an integral part of SkyCity Adelaide’s world-class integrated entertainment precinct, featuring an array of bars and restaurants, the luxurious Eos by SkyCity hotel, a spa and wellness centre, gaming facilities, and a dedicated conference and events level.
