Extra public transport services announced for festival season

Anticipating bumper crowds flocking to the city, Adelaide Metro has announced additional bus and tram services.

As Adelaide dives into its vibrant festival season, Adelaide Metro is gearing up to ensure festival-goers have a smooth, fuss-free experience getting to and from the myriad events set to transform the city into a wonderland from this weekend until mid-March.

Anticipating bumper crowds flocking to the city, Adelaide Metro has announced additional bus and tram services, making it easier than ever for attendees to partake in the festivities without the hassle of driving and parking in the bustling city center.

For those heading to the East End to catch the Adelaide Fringe shows from February 16 to March 17, the O-Bahn is offering 20 extra trips on weekends, dropping passengers right in the thick of the action. Moreover, the free ADLOOP CBD tram service will be making rounds each Friday and Saturday night starting tonight, the opening night of the Fringe, and on Sunday, March 10, in conjunction with the Adelaide Cup long weekend.

The ADLOOP service, looping the north, east, and south ends of the city from Gilles St to Festival Plaza, ensures easy access to popular venues like the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and the Pioneer Women’s Garden, the latter of which will host Writers’ Week from March 2-7.

With East End Unleashed causing road closures on Rundle Street, East Terrace, and Rundle Road each festival weekend, some bus routes will be detoured. However, a temporary taxi rank between Rundle Road and Grenfell Street will be available from February 15 to March 18 to aid in transportation needs.

WOMADelaide attendees are also in for a treat, as Adelaide Metro rolls out a dedicated shuttle bus service running from March 8-11, ensuring seamless travel to and from Botanic Park along Frome Road.

Regular public transport users and those with concession fares are encouraged to use a metroCARD for the best value, while Tap and Pay tickets offer a convenient alternative for infrequent users on a full adult fare.

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Tom Koutsantonis says ‘We want to make it as easy as possible for acts and audiences to get to the heart of the fun as Adelaide comes alive in festival season.’

‘With Adelaide Metro running extra bus and tram services, hopping from show to show – and getting in and out of the city on public transport – is a safe and sensible option.’

‘Extra services mean more seats on the network, so you can take yours at venues across the city and soak up the atmosphere of our world-renowned celebration of arts, culture and diversity.’

‘Leave the car at home, plan your journey and get your festival party started stress-free.’

So, get your party plans underway and let Adelaide Metro be your ride to this season’s festival fun.

Plan your trip using the journey planner, check out the Adelaide Fringe and Festival ADLOOP tram service, or visit www.adelaidemetro.com.au for real-time timetable information. Let the festivities begin!
