Through the Eyes of a Massive Sports Fan

I’m a massive sports fan! Since a young age I would present elaborate justifications to my mum as to why it was essential that I stay up until all hours of the morning to ensure I could catch the sporting event of the moment live. It didn’t matter what sport it was, I wanted to ensure I caught every history making moment as it happened! These days I have to work even harder to convince my girlfriend of said sporting moments importance!

To therefore be selected by Samsung to report from the London 2012 Olympic Games as a Samsung Global Blogger is a dream come true! The Olympic Games is the Sistine Chapel of sporting events. Once every 4 years the best in the world, across a multitude of different sports, gather in one place, all chasing a simple piece of gold jewellery that officially stamps them as the best in the world!

As a sports fan, friends hate that I always want to be the last to leave the game so that I can hear all the post game interviews or leave the TV on to hear all of the post match insights. As well as loving the game I love the depth and colour that comes from everything around it. The event is only part of the story! Where the athlete eats on their day off, who they thank first after a victory and whether they stop to sign autographs for the kids, are the things for me that take sporting events to another level.

The last time I was in London what was meant to be an amazing working holiday turned into being locked in hospital for a month-long medical trial. So in my world ‘Big Ben’ was an annoying South African bloke on the trial with me and my experience of ‘the tube’ definitely didn’t warrant a t-shirt displaying its various routes!

The resultant pay cheque did fund some amazing travels through Europe but it has left me hungry to explore and discover the magic of London. This time around nothing will stand in my way from finding out every hidden corner of goodness that London has to offer.

Yet for me, maybe the best part is I’ll be in London to see every event happen live at a normal time rather than at some odd hour of the morning. The 12 year old inside of me that used to beg mum to let him stay up, can still hardly believe it. I won’t be staying up until the early hours of the morning, rugged up in front of the TV in Australia, watching ‘The Missile’, James Magnussen, in the 100m freestyle. I’ll be there live! I’ll probably still be rugged up (it is England) but what’s crazy is I won’t just get to watch it, I get to meet him and interview him as well! This will be an incredible experience for me, but I love that I get to share it with you.

If you’re in Australia (or anywhere else in the world) and no amount of begging will convince your parent (partner, boss, teacher, housemate) to allow you to watch the action as it happens, check in on my blog throughout the London 2012 Olympic Games. I feel a responsibility to make sure you hear not just about the winners and losers but all the good bits as well. Everything worth staying up for, with out the late night!
