Gilles at the Grounds will return in August

After a four month hiatus, Gilles at the Grounds is bringing back its vast market of local products, food, treats and live music this August.

After having to close doors in March this year, the Gilles at the Grounds markets and their 120 small local businesses lost their tangible monthly market opportunity.

With many businesses were only able to trade online, the market itself went on hiatus mode.

Jennifer Centenera, the founder of Gilles Street Market (now Gilles at the Grounds) is pleased to tell us that the beloved market will return, but with a few changes.

The first market date has been slated for Sunday 9 August with a complete COVID-19 safe plan being implemented in consult with the Adelaide Showground.

“Gilles will look a little different for the time being,” she says.

“We are now limited with the number of stalls we can have in the venue and also limited by the number of guests that can enter the venue. Entry and exit points will be condensed so we can monitor numbers accordingly.”

With hand sanitising available in all stalls throughout the venue, and a 1.5m social distancing rule enforced in all areas, market traders will also need to employ contactless payment options and stall cleaning routines.

With the outpouring of support for Gilles return, Jennifer says that “Gilles will be a little different, but we will give it our best amidst the current climate.”

One thing that will remain the same is the vast range of wonderful products on offer at Gilles at the Grounds.

“From emerging designers, vintage fashion, children’s clothing and product, art, plant, jewellery, craft and not to forget items for our favourite furry friends,” Jennifer says.

“Gilles represents so many of Adelaide’s creatives, it will be great to get amongst it all again and feel inspired.”

In order to make the most of your visits and to prepare for COVID restrictions, Jennifer says to be aware of wait times, with the encouragement to come earlier.

Gilles at the Grounds’ peak hours are between 11.30am ’til 1pm, so head in a couple hours before and after that.

“In the event that guests do need to wait, we invite them to relax in our undercover Market Lounge, which will house coffee, games, live music and continued good vibes,” she says.

Gilles at the Grounds’ new opening hours are 9.30am to 3.30pm. You can find the market entrance on Leader St in Goodwood.
