It’s the new look Talking History series that has got everyone… talking.

Starting with the theme of ‘wonder’, the History Trust of South Australia is presenting a whole series of talks this year, with the first coinciding with SA’s History Festival 2023.

The first session is this Thursday, and will look at ‘History & Imagination: Adversaries or Allies’.

Four historians, fascinated by the power of imagination within history practice, consider how historians since Herodotus have engaged with this animating element across distinctive forms of Australian history-making since long before European Settlement.

They also consider how imagination with integrity can best bring history to life in our schools, museums, podcasts and books.

Panel Chair and SA History Advocate Dr Kiera Lindsey will lead the provocative conversation. In this capacity, Kiera undertakes research, advocacy and outreach to historical organisations, individual practitioners and the broader community, while also connecting with urban and regional communities and other groups to increase appreciation of our distinctive history.

The conversation will be between Professor Marnie Hughes Warrington AO, Professor Anna Clark, and Dr Kristy Kokegei.

Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington AO is Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the strategic and operational leader across research activities at the University of South Australia. Her role is to design and deliver approaches that help staff and research students alike to engage with industry, government and community to deliver novel and transformational solutions to problems, and to change the ways that we think about the world.

Professor Anna Clark is an historian at the Australian Centre for Public History based at the University of Technology Sydney. She is the author of Making Australian History (Penguin, 2022) and has written extensively on history education, historiography and historical consciousness.

Dr Kristy Kokegei is the History Trust’s Head of Audience and Experience. A digital historian and strategist, she leads the development of the History Trust’s storytelling presence through curatorial, digital, and education. She also oversees the History Trust’s community and audience engagement activities in the digital, museums, learning and education spheres.

2023 marks the ten-year anniversary of the History Trust of South Australia’s Talking History lecture series. These Talking History events, in partnership with the University of South Australia, is an acknowledgement of this milestone.
