International jazz supergroup AZIZA to make long-awaited Adelaide debut this October

Four of the world’s most celebrated contemporary jazz musicians will unite on stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre this October, with international supergroup AZIZA making its Adelaide debut.

Internationally acclaimed jazz supergroup AZIZA is set to make its long-awaited Adelaide debut this spring, at Her Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday, October 29th.

Presented by Adelaide Festival Centre, the one-night-only performance will bring together four of the biggest names in contemporary jazz, bassist Dave Holland, saxophonist Chris Potter, guitarist Lionel Loueke and drummer Eric Harland.

Each musician has had an extraordinary career individually, but together they form one of the most respected and exciting jazz ensembles performing anywhere in the world.

Collectively, the quartet has shared stages with some of the greatest names in music history, including Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, Joe Henderson, Charles Lloyd and John Scofield.

For Adelaide audiences, it’s an exciting opportunity to experience a true jazz supergroup live.

Dave Holland first rose to international fame after joining Miles Davis’ groundbreaking band in the late 1960s and has since become a Grammy Award winner, NEA Jazz Master and one of the most influential bassists of the modern era.

Chris Potter is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading saxophonists, known for his remarkable improvisation and collaborations with artists including Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Steely Dan and John Scofield.

Lionel Loueke has earned international acclaim for his distinctive guitar style, blending African musical traditions with contemporary jazz.

Eric Harland has become one of the world’s most sought-after drummers, performing alongside Wayne Shorter, Charles Lloyd, Julian Lage and many others.

Their performances as AZIZA are renowned for their improvisation, technical brilliance and seamless musical chemistry, earning the group a reputation as one of the premier live acts in contemporary jazz.

“AZIZA brings together four of the most influential voices in contemporary jazz,” shared Adelaide Festival Centre Director of Programming Alexandra Sinclair. “Each member has enjoyed an extraordinary career in their own right, but when they perform together there’s a rare musical chemistry that has captivated audiences around the world. We’re thrilled to welcome AZIZA to Adelaide for the first time and give South Australian audiences the opportunity to experience this extraordinary ensemble live.”

The Adelaide performance forms part of a national tour that also includes appearances at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Sydney’s City Recital Hall and Perth International Jazz Festival.

The concert continues Adelaide Festival Centre’s strong lineup of international music events, with acclaimed guitarist Julian Lage also making his Adelaide debut at Dunstan Playhouse on September 11th as part of his world tour.

For music lovers, October’s performance is sure to be a standout, offering the chance to witness four of the genre’s most influential artists sharing the stage in an intimate theatre setting.
