Labor to bring back Adelaide Motorsport Festival

Today the South Australian Labor party announced that a Malinauskas Labor Government would reinstate funding for the Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

Today the South Australian Labor party announced that a Malinauskas Labor Government would reinstate funding for the Adelaide Motorsport Festival to bring back this premier motorsport event.

It follows Labor’s announcement two months ago to bring back the Adelaide 500.

The Adelaide Motorsport Festival ceased operating in 2019 after State Government sponsorship funds were cut. Organisers had hoped to reinstate the event in 2020 but this did not eventuate.

With both the Adelaide 500 and the Adelaide Motorsport Festival currently off the racing calendar in SA, today’s announcement is welcome news for motorosport fans.

Before it was cut, the Adelaide Motorsport Festival was considered one of Australia’s premier motorsport events and a key contributor to South Australia’s tourism economy, delivering more than $3.5 million in economic benefits to the State.

The event featured a diverse field of historic touring and sports cars, classic motorcycles and classic cars from bygone eras and even F1s. It included events like the Adelaide Classic Rally, Victoria Park sprint of rare and classic vehicles and the Gouger Street Party, which celebrated all things motorsport.

It also drew in motorsport legends like Craig Lowndes, Ivan Capelli, David Brabham and Jim Richards who attended and participated in the festival.

It was run by a small team of dedicated enthusiasts with a genuine love for motorsport in all its forms, but once State Government funding was cut the event could no longer proceed.

Labor has promised to reinstate the funding and work with sporting car clubs and other associations to deliver a bigger and better event.
